Skyler's Veiled, Karma :)

This is my 6 month old female (I think) veiled. Her name is Karma, like the song Karma Chameleon

Baby Picture-From the first day I got her!

She is kept in a 24x24x48 mesh cage, I'm gunna move her into a larger one soon. There are lots of plants and branches for her in there. I feed her mainly large crickets and superworms, along with some spring mix, I occasionally give her meal worms because she loves them but I know they can cause impaction so it's only every once in a while. I have a Uvb in there too. She also gets time to free climb in an area I set up in my room by the window. Her lights are on a timer. She has a drip system and I mist twice a day. I also add calcium to her food about once a week. I have a sand box at the bottom of her cage but I'm nervous she will get egg bound :/ I haven't seen any eggs yet. Is that bad? Please let me know of any advice you could give me. Thanks!

its a vieled is shoudnt be hard to tell if its a male or female.they can be determined when they are born,if you look on the back feet if the cham has a spur on the back of its foot if it doesnt have one then its a female good luck if not just go to google and type in " sexing vieled chameleons"

I trust your judgement but I looked up pictures of the spur and I don't see one on her/him. there is a little extra skin back there but I see no spur lol. i'll try to get of pic of her back legs

No, that's definitely a female. I see what looks like a spur in the second picture, but I'm pretty sure it's just the other side of her foot. She has female coloration and her casque isn't as tall as a male's.

Welcome to the forums, btw. That's a nice looking girl you've got there.

Your husbandry sounds pretty good overall. I do suggest that you use calcium more frequently though. Most forum members seem to agree that calcium without D3 should be used every day, calcium with D3 should be used twice a month, and a multivitamin once a month.

I wouldn't have cared either way but I'm glad she wont have gender identity crisis now lol, I've been calling her "her" for 6 months!
Anyways, when will she start laying eggs?? and what do i do so she wont get impacted?

Eggs are a tricky subject. Whoever was posted earlier was right, check out Jannb's profile for the best info on egg laying and laying bins. But for now, keeping her weight under control (feeding less than you would a male) and keeping temperatures mid 70's, up to mid 80's max is the best you can do. Lower temperatures and less food intake helps slow and in some rare cases keeps females from ever producing non fertile eggs.

I recommend silkworms or hornworms. Those are more nutritional than mealworms or waxworms, but most chams still love them.
