Rudis maybe????

Ok so I kinda have a new idea.....what about a rudis? Is there anything bad about them like are they sick easy or what...? PS my other options are Senegal and Jax.
 
Youre bouncing all around...what are you looking for in a chameleon and in means of care and cage setup. Its a lot easier to tell us what you have plan on having and what chameleon will thrive with that $ and setup...
 
Ok so I'll help you help me out here. I have a 18"x18"x2' tall terrarium with a golden Pothos (about 9 inches long with 3 extensions? Separations? I don't know. Anyway, I have a wall covered in 6' of vines just so he feels more secure, plenty of sticks and twigs for him to climb on, and a little fiber thing for him to climb on (coconut maybe). Also have a brand new UVB light, as well as a heat lamp. I intend to make an 18"x18"x18" tall topwards extension to it for extra height. (Wood, metal mesh, etc.) in 6 or so months. So, Rudis, Senegal, or Jax?
 
Flchams has crazy prices. 200$+ for a chameleon for most of them, 60$+ for some, 80$+ for the rest. LLLReptiles is decent enough, but 40$ shipping is crazy. I'll pay it, but it's crazy. Anyone else have ideas?
 
I had a pair of Rudis, about 10 or so years ago. These guys are great! Mine were housed in a huge pothos in a south window. They ate out of my hands and were very friendly.

Your idea of crazy is a business likely taking a loss to ship something to you. Do you know the difficulties involved in shipping reptiles? FL chams is a great source for healthy CB Chameleons of many varieties and has prices comparable to the market, I bought a Cham from them and it's been a joy watching him grow. If you don't want to pay shipping try to go to a show or find a breeder close to you.

$200 is cheap for a panther. $40 is cheap for overnight shipping most charge $50. Quit thinking in terms of the cost.. When you try to go the cheap route 9 times out of 10 you end up sorry.
 
You get what you pay for...backwater is an example, imo they are junk. They shipping is fairly standard no matter where you buy online, thats thr price of doing business with a living creature and getting it to you in a heathy secure fast way. Where do you live, maybe a local breeder is a better option and save that $40-50 on shipping and put it towards supps. Vet bill reserve etc

I'm going to put it out there again the best way I know how quite bluntly. So even though this will probably just fall on deaf ears here it goes. Any Montane species would not make a good first time chameleon much too sensitive, and would be better left to more experienced keepers.
 
Undergroundreptiles has jax for $40 but they are WC (they call them "field collected") but to me that site almost looks like a backwater type deal. Althhough they do have good and plenty of youtube vids, but majority of their stock is wild caught. Hence cheap prices and WC is just going to be a disaster imo.
 
Is your terrarium still a glass cage. If it if there are no chameleons that will be ok to be in your cage. There's one exception. Some Pygmy species actually do pretty good in glass terrariums.
Air flow is critical to there health. And another big downfall to a glass cage is you run a HUGE risk of the chameleon slamming there tongue on the glass.

There have been posts claiming this as a myth as terrariums such as exo terra do have plenty of ventilation. Screen works just as fine as glass. Glass makes the humidity and temperature easier while screen makes the ventilation and probably hunting easier. Different downs and ups but both works if you know how to keep it. A common misunderstanding about glass is that some take them for aquariums with 0 ventilation and even meant to contain water or probably that they're all shaped for ground dwellers. As I said, both should work fine if you know how to work with it
 
I'm sorry but you are wrong. Chameleons are not like other reptiles. They have very specialized care and requirements. One of the most important if not the most important is they need to be in a screen cage. The ventilation is crucial to there health and a fish tank with a screen top is not the same. As far as the humidity is concerned of coarse it's easier to contain it in a tank but a tank is the opposite of what's right to house a chameleon in. Live plants, misting systems and hand misting is how you properly keep up the humidity for a chameleon in screen cage. You could also partially cover the sides with plastic.
 
Course* and many disagree on that topic. Terrariums keep the heat and ExoTerra has a vent on the bottom that allows airflow in and out. Hot air rises, cold air descends, the cold air leaves the small lower vent and the hot air leaves the screen top. I appreciate your advice, but Chams do fine in glass cages and there are many videos of perfectly healthy Chams in a cage exact or similar to mine.
 
Oh my gosh help please

Ok so everyone here is giving me a bad rep and all I want is a small chameleon that is relatively cheap (not asking for 20$ including shipping here) but something around 100$ with shipping would be nice. Jax has been checked off, Senegal is possible but not likely, a Rudis is my best option here. Anywhere I can get one? Hoping for new information,

They are giving you a bad rep because you kinda earned it initially. However, I paid $125 including shipping for my juvenile male veiled from Flchams it may be cheaper as texas is a lot closer to florida than I am. My chameleon came in healthy and no problems.
