Hello everyone I have a 4 month old veiled chameleon named Carlos. I am pretty sure he has a mild case of MBD and I am in need of some Husbandry tips and some assistance in reversing this disease. I believe it resulted from my lack of supplementation when he was a little younger. I was Supplementing with calcium with d3 and a multivitamin and I was only supplementing 1-2 times a week. And multivitamin once or twice a month. I have just purchased a calcium spray that does not have d3 or phosporus and I have been spraying at every feeding. I am gut loading my crickets with kale carrots and flukkers cricket food.
Please give feed back and help Carlos get better.

hello there. unfortunately, damage already done in regards to MBD cannot be reversed. it can be prevented from continuing but cant be reversed. there are some things you can do to prevent further damage and make him healthier overall:

supplement using this schedule: calcium without d3 at everyfeeding, calcium with d3 twice a month, and a multivitamin twice a month

allow him as much time as possible outside in the direct sunlight as long as the conditions are right. our uvb lights do provide uvb but not nearly the amount as the unfiltered sun does and this will really help him

most of the commercial made gutloads really arent very good and do not provide proper nutrition. "cricket crack" and "bug burger" are good commercial gutloads however so try to get one of those or make your own gutload to give your feeders. heres a link to a great gutload recipe! https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/75-feeder-nutrition-gutloading.html

you may want to take him to the vet to get an xray to see the extent of damage and they may give him a liquid calcium shot

as for just making sure his normal needs are met, try to get him a variety of feeders. its really good for them and stops them from getting bored! heres a link to some feeders ideas https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/74-feeders.html

and then here is a link to our veiled chameleon caresheet. has accurate info on the care they need to flourish! https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/caresheets/veiled/

please do post some pics of him when you have a chance! i hope he starts feeling better soon! the link carol provided is packed with info on MBD also :)
