He is a little bit on the small side is the is this cage ok or do I need a bigger one? He is about 7 inches not including tail.

It looks like you gat the “Chameleon Kit” in that case the cage is too small, you need at least 2x2x4

also, what if I added a free range extension? I could keep my roommates dogs out of my room and I could buy tall plants.
