Question about Veiled coloration?

How soon should male veiled chameleons show their adult colors? Or is every chameleon different?

I'm really just asking for people's personal experiences here. I'm just curious when I should expect it.

mine are about 5 mts old and the male is just starting to show his yellow bars and a little bit of blue... i think bu 6 or 7 mts old they will be pretty colored up.... have fun waiting lol

I'm curious because mine is still pretty much green at 4 months old. Although when I zoomed in on some photos I am noticing some turquise colors coming through.

veileds don't get real colorful just hanging around. They tend to get brighter colors when fired up but not like a panther. I have seen some really pretty yellows and oranges iin others male veileds, but my guy tends to be green/turquoise.

Oh wow, okay. I assume that's why panthers are so popular.

Thanks for the info! This is partly my way of "knowing for sure" if my chameleon is a male, or what to expect to prove that he is male. I'm pretty sure he is thus far. I'm guessing my guy is going to be a green/turquoise kinda guy, too!

Does he have tarsal spurs? Veileds can be sexed right after hatching. Tarsal spurs are little bumps on their back heels that stick out like a little pimple...

i'm glad you had this thread going, because i was thinking the same question just the other day. my male is about 2.5 months at this point, and i was wondering how long i had to wait to see his true colors. i can already see some really awesome patterns in him, but no major coloration.

When my guy is just hanging out, he is turqoise and yellow with orange in his gular area, i think he is just about done with his colors since he is now about 9 months

Yeah, he does but the vet I went to thought I might have a female. So I was confused. I'm pretty sure she was wrong, though.

I'm so happy, though, because I just noticed today that Ridley is starting to develop some yellow bars on his sides. So pretty!

I know. That's what I'm afraid of!

I don't MIND a female, but I don't want to deal with the extra care of preventing egg-binding and stuff... not right now.
