Who all is looking at breeding for the 1st time in the near or distant future?

1. What are you waiting for?

I'm waiting to get settled back in Houston and I'm waiting on a banja girl

2. Why are you doing it?

I love these creatures and I think that it would be the ultimate satisfaction to bring in a new bloodline successfully.

3. Any worries or concerns?

Female care always concerns me. Digging, supplements, egg bound, etc.

4. What are you doing to prepare?

Researching as much as possible. Communicating with successful and proven breeders and asking tons of questions. Starting this dialog with this thread.

5. What is your timeline?

I'm looking for a female for Walker. I hope to be started by Aug/Sept. The female that I'm looking at should be ready to breed by then.

6. What are you looking to breed?

I'm wanting to start with my banja and hopefully move on to my Ambilobe.

7. How will you fund your projects?

By selling blood and plasma! ;) Seriously, I'm saving up lil by little and I'm accumulating supplies, little by little.

Experienced breeders, feel free to chime in! Knowledge is king!!

1. What are you waiting for?

financial means, and the space to do it.

2. Why are you doing it?

Next step in the hobby which I really enjoy. Who doesn't like baby chameleons?

Researching as much as possible. Then doing more research.

5. What is your timeline?

By next year have the operation running

Just bred my panthers for the first time a few weeks ago.

1. What are you waiting for?
First I was waiting on finding a good female, then was waiting for my little female to grow up, now just waiting for eggs to hatch!

2. Why are you doing it?
Oscar is handsome, of good genetics and extremely friendly for a chameleon. Loretta has the same qualities so I'm hoping they pass along their friendly genes to their babies.

3. Any worries or concerns?
Not being able to sell all the babies...or refusing to sell them unless people pass a test and take a class to be qualified. ;)

4. What are you doing to prepare?
Research, research, research, got an incubator since I keep my house cold in the winter, best nutrition and calcium supplementation for my female to make sure she's as healthy as possible to bear the burden of egg making.

5. What is your timeline?
Eggs should hopefully hatch in 7-9 months

6. What are you looking to breed?
Ambilobe panthers (there aren't enough of those right?)

7. How will you fund your projects?
If the hubby gets to upgrade his home brewing equipment then the chams get an upgrade too. ;)

Lol! Congrats to you too! I've deffo got the itch, but I'm going to get the right female and do this right! Walker deserves to have pretty boys and girls running around! ;)

1. What are you waiting for?
Firstly: Marimo needs to find himself the right girl. We're going to Hamm this year, and I'm hoping I can find him "the love of his life"!
Secondly: Yuki needs to get healthier. She's well on her way already, and we plan to eventually find her a boyfriend. That likely won't be in the very near future though.
Lastly: Both of my chameleons are still young, they need to grow up still. Once they are over a year (At least the females) then I will see what happens! I am in no immediate rush.

2. Why are you doing it?
To build up my army and take over the world! On a serious note I love and have always loved reptiles. It started with dinosaurs and pretty much went from there (I know dinosaurs are not lizards, but that's how it started!). There's nothing more amazing than the joy of having eggs hatch!

3. Any worries or concerns?
Regarding the adults themselves, I don't have any concerns. I know that if anything happens, I have 3 available vets in the area and everyone on here to help me through that. I am more worried about finding proper homes for the young when they hatch. When we breed them, we do not plan on just selling them to anyone. I would hate to have "my" little babies end up somewhere they will just end up being mistreated...

4. What are you doing to prepare?
Right now, not a whole lot actually. My chameleons are too young as of right yet, so I don't have to worry too much. I do spend a lot of time on here, reading and soaking in all the knowledge I can. Eventually, when the time comes, I won't have to do more to prepare than possibly buying more cages and getting proper food together!

5. What is your timeline?
Step 1: Wife for Marimo. (March, maybe)
Step 2: Plan the wedding and hold it, maybe outside in the forest. (August)
Step 3: Honeymoon. (November)
Step 4: Husband for Yuki.. (November)
Step 5: Plan the wedding and hold it, probably inside because of snow. (January)
Step 6: Honeymoon. (February 14th)

6. What are you looking to breed?
T. Ellioti (Marimo & eventually Midori) and Veileds (Yuki & eventually Ryuu) are planned. My husband wants to get into some sort of panthers and I do want jacksons. I also like mellers... but there are SO many chameleons that look so amazing, so I will just stop for now before I get too carried away!

7. How will you fund your projects?
When I take over the world, there will be no need for such nonsense!!!! Nothing out of the ordinary.

That was a great write-up! The only thing I would suggest/rethink is #4. It's never too early to start gathering/building enclosures for the project. I'm constantly on Craigslist looking for cages.

I've seen some cool "baby-raisers" here on CF. Texas Ranger has one that comes to mind. My head is always spinning and I'm still months out on this!

I'm so excited for and envious of you all! Maybe one day I'll be preparing for the same adventure! ( I'm actually working on something in my head)! ;)
Good luck to you all!!!!

Right now, reading the forums daily is enough :) I did my research far earlier (At least in regards to keeping young) as I was scared Marimo would still be a "baby" when I got him. The only one I will need to read up more on is veiled, but since so many here have them, I soak in information from between-the-line reading best :) As for cages, I will be checking what kind of things they have at Hamm when we go because I know there are a LOT of cage builders out there that make awesome stuff! I was also planning on starting to build our own things, but that we could do a month before anything happens. besides, there's always the "temporary" exo terra net cages that can be used! But we are not too hasty to have to make decisions like that... things will come as they come!

Perhaps I just have a more laid-back, things-come-when-they-do personality, which is why I'm not making too much of a fuss right now. I suppose software developers are just lazy, but then again I already knew that :D When the time comes and I need information, I know where to get it (I have SO many bookmarks now). I also have about 4 good sellers of cages bookmarked for future references and a couple of forum posts on here with DIY cages. The only thing I am "worrying" about in terms of preparation is what goes IN the cage (plants, branches, etc). I suppose in the summer I will start preparing for that, as I will be searching for nice branches to bake :)

::EDIT::
The key is knowing the where! If I know where I want to get things, then the last thing to do is actually get them! :D

I'm so excited for and envious of you all! Maybe one day I'll be preparing for the same adventure! ( I'm actually working on something in my head)! ;)
Good luck to you all!!!!

Thanks, Lisa! I can guarantee you that this won't be a half-a$$ed attempt. All in or go home...

Who all is looking at breeding for the 1st time in the near or distant future?

1. What are you waiting for?

I'm patiently selecting the breeder stock that has the specific traits I desire

2. Why are you doing it?

I want to see if I can produce a truly stunning morph of a popular Panther locale

3. Any worries or concerns?

Length of time acquiring breeding stock. Very long incubation durations. Quality consistent food sources for neonates.

4. What are you doing to prepare?

Reading as much as I can on the subject. Conversing with successful breeders. Even considering a trip to Madagascar.

5. What is your timeline?

I'm not in any rush.

6. What are you looking to breed?

Nosy Be Panthers

7. How will you fund your projects?

Savings, working extra days, etc. Once the project starts producing I should be able to offset costs by selling offspring.

I really don’t want to breed her a lot maybe just one clutch or two

1. What are you waiting for?
For her to mature into a beautiful female, and then find a suitable male.

2. Why are you doing it?
I want to get a a male and then slowly find GREAT HOMES for the remaining ones for FREE!!!!! :D

3. Any worries or concerns?
My little girl passing due to being egg bound and proper supplements during the activity:(

4. What are you doing to prepare?
Research, research, research, and oh yeah MORE RESEARCH

5. What is your timeline?
She will be 1 yr old in August but I will wait until she is about a 1 ½ or older, so I can get her egg laying down

6. What are you looking to breed?
Ambilobe panthers because that’s what she is and they are cute:D

7. How will you fund your projects?
In nursing school right now and I will make my kids do little jigs to make money or sell those fake chocolate bars for fundraisers.:D:D:D:eek:
