can someone explain to me this. i have heard that uvb cannot penetrate threough screen, can uva? how big does the screeen need to be. i dont understand why it would not be able topenetrate through the screen.
would the bulbs neeed to be mounted inside the cage w. the cham? how would you keep him off of it from getting burned,

myth or busted?

What type of screen? It can go though most screen, but it can block some of the rays, it cannot go through glass.

Uvb can pass through screen...you may be thinking of the soft, black mesh type screen cages. Uvb is cut down by about 50% when passing through those types of enclosures. A reptisun 5.0 is perfect for regular aluminum screen cages but if you are using a soft mesh enclosure most people say a 10.0 is just right. Hope this helps.

ChrisnLisa, that theory is not entirely correct. The 5.0 and 10.0 bulbs have different focus points in different areas of the light spectrum. So, two 5.0's would not produce the same light as a 10.0. On average, 5.0 has always been the most favored choice among chameleon species with receive partially filtered light in the wild.

It's a common misconception. Next time you are in a pet store, take a look at the boxes for the three different types of bulbs. On the side there is a little chart and you can see how the bulbs differ in the light spectrum.
