ok so my baby snapper has pooped out a worm....mother f....so hes got parasites...it looked liek a small tapeworm....it had very light rings goin horizontaly around its sides....im going to take the turtle to a nearby creek and set him free.....i dont want him inside the house at the risk of infecting me or my chameleon....i guess this is what you get fror taking in WC animals

well hes a aquatic turtle...both turtles and torisus live for a long time...it was a baby american snapper....ill let him go and he will go into hibernation mode in the cold then reamerg in the spring

What about the pathogens that he's quite possibly picked up while living in captivity. You want to introduce those to an ecosystem that can't handle them?

So, let me get this straight. You go out capture some turtle because you want a pet. With no care of the native fauna in mind you drag this turtle back home throw him in a small tank and expect for him to not have any parasites? Then when you notice that wild caughts do indeed most of the time have parasites you want to drag him back and release, once again without a care in the world about the ecosystem or the animal that you are directly causing extreme stress?

no way! i saved him....my moms freind brought him home to add to her pond! the turtle was captured by her ( she had no idea it was a snapper)...and i wasnt about to release it in a residential area! so ive been keeping it...yes it was removed from its natural habitat i didnt go out hunting for one....it was outa my cxontrol...my mom called me and said i gota a turtle with me...and she had alredy left the area

my moms freind gave it to her for me to identify...once i relized it was a snapper....my moms freind ofcourse didnt want it living in her pond...i mean i couldnt just let the thing die...

Okay, I am glad that you didn't go out hunting for new pets haha. Sorry that I assumed that.

If you plan on releasing him, make sure that you release as close as possible to where he was taken from to give him the best chance at survival.

Also, try to use the edit button rather than triple posting.

Please DONT get a tortoise. You clearly have little regard for creatures in your care, and no idea of their requirements. Tortoises are NOT far easier to care for. Every creature has specific requirements, including your chameleon. If you manage to keep your chameleon alive for another 12 months, then perhaps consider something else.
The turtle is not 'disposable', its a living creature that you claimed "responsibility' for,
Now your running from that responsibility.
You are not ready for a tortoise or any other thing until you understand what this responsibility entails.
Where will dump your chameleon the first time you face an issue with it?

ive talked with you about this my cham had pinnworms and its on panacure ...i did not plan on keeping this turtle wat so ever BEFORE YOU JUDGE YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE STORY it was prety much dumped on my doorstep....my mom would not take me 6 hours back to wear it was from! IT IS OUT OF MY CONTROL

the only reason i released it was because i did not want a alredy infected animal contaminating my chameleon or other pets we have! i feel terrible about the hole thing...but i dont want to risk anything...sorry for the double post

no as i said before the "same "spot is 6 hours away....they got it while they were camping....my mom wouldnt drive back out there to release it. and i DID not take it somone gave it to me ...as i have said before my MOMS FREIND took it...and whenb i say wouldnt i mean....i asked her before i released it and she said no

im not getting one dont worry! my cham is my main priority alwasy has been. ive done everything this forum has said ...as most peopel have and if you folo the rules your cham will be as healthy as a (small ...lol ) horse!

If you are not willing to treat a wc pet then you are not ready for any new pet. What's the difference between your chameleon and your turtle? You took them on willingly, you didn't have to claim the turtle as a pet but you did. Don't get another pet if you aren't willing to pay for the vet bills and have successfully kept your chameleon healthy for at least another 6 months - 1 year.

i agree but since i DO NOT CONTROL my bills...its kinda hard....its my moms money not mine...she would not pay for the vet bill ... i begged her to let the vet bill be payed....but she wouldnt ...i argued this for a whole day
