Hi Cham Fam!!

I am reaching out because although I have my inclinations about the gender and have spoken to a reputable breeder who had similar inclinations…it was confirmed . sometimes I “definitely” see a boy and other times I “definitely” see a girl. Either way will always have a forever home with me but it’s driving me nuts lol. Is there anyone who can confirm gender of this baby? born end of july (ps after research, the woven hammock is gone!! Oversight from a new Cham mom) Time stamps aren’t accurate these pics have been taken over the last week or so… pictures are zoomed in.

Thank you in advance and I greatly appreciate all your expertise! I have learned SO much from this forum to provide proper husbandry for a happy and healthy Cham!

Yeah I am not good at panthers this young. lol. Good news is your husbandry is the same for male or female at this age.

you will want to raise that UVB fixture off the top of the cage. Baby can get far too close to it. If it is a T5HO with a 5.0 bulb raise it 4 inches off the top.

If you want to do a husbandry review you will want to copy and paste the form below into your reply and then answer all the questions and upload pics of the entire cage set up including your lighting on top.

Chameleon Info:

  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Please Note:

  1. The more details you provide the better and more accurate help you will receive.
  2. Photos can be very helpful.

Tough to say however I going to say your Furcifer pardalis is a male.

Thank you so much! It’s super hard to discern! He has definitely been showing primarily female colors which is what makes me really wonder if I am seeing a hemipenal bulge or imagining one lol.

I also wonder if his birthdate is later than advertised due to size and color display. I’m just not an expert so I don’t know. Either way happy and healthy Cham is what I really care about! Thanks for the help!!

My guess is male but it could be full of poop lol. Do you have a pic from more recent? I k ow this wasn’t long ago tho. 😀
Here are the most recent! I’m thinking boy because of bulge but other times I look and Swear there isn’t one 😂 and patterns and coloring seem girl…just not sure if he’s a late bloomer. He is RBBB and there I times a swear a see a tinge of reds and blues but the majority of the time pinkish brownish.

Maybe in a couple week I’ll try again and see if we can confirm. He’s been aptly named Rogue 😂 thanks for all the help!

I don’t want to photo dump again so quick question…my Cham is showing red on his tail and chest. Is this only a male trait or can ambilobe females display this as well?

Normally colors beyond brownish colors on a Furcifer pardalis is a male trait. However sometimes female Furcifer pardalis have got some colors too. Some on exceedingly rare occasions female Furcifer pardalis can have exceptional coloring. That does not happen often though.

I think these might confirm it?
