I just wanted to share with everyone our new little cutie patooties - 15 baby rudis chams that were born at 5:00 a.m. (she finished at about 5:45 a.m.) on May 26th. Mom and babies are doing just fine. These little buggers must love their food, because they are little pooping machines! :D (Bear in mind, however, these pics are certainly not Chris Anderson quality nor was I prepared to get some good video...) First couple pics are of mom the day before giving birth.... what a chunk! Enjoy! (this is my first time posting pics, so pardon me if I didn't do it right...)

They're very, very cute; congrats to you and Mama rudis! If anything, they look bigger than I would have pictured. (And they share my birthday!:D)

When I was breeding Rudis - my babies loved fruit flies - a great source is www.flycafe.net. Great guy and great deal. Nice fat fruit flies. You will love watching the babies eat. Be sure to get at least 2 32oz. containers. They will eat one and while you are using the 2nd one, the first one will have produced some more. Good luck!

We always have a good stock of fat fruit flies on hand thanks to some other members of our zoo here. We have a local guy who we get them from for less than cheap. :D But thanks for the info - I'll have to keep that in my back pocket just in case.

Yep, they've been feasting on fruit flies and pins and love them to death.

I love the last photo! Okay everyone, can you find all the babies? I found 13

No cheating.... :D

Can you pencil me in for a male when your ready to sell?

Sure thing!

Call me paranoid but I count them every time I go to their cage just to make sure everyone's accounted for. This is my first time dealing with a live-bearing species and their babies, so I'm just a little nervous (even though it's really no different than when they come out of the egg...)

Congratulations!
I see you have the babies in an "Insta Cage" :)
Every time I see rudis I think I need them ... I need to see how I do with the cristatus first.
Good luck with these guys, perhaps I will be ready when they are!

Yep. I have a gazillion of those cages and the small ones are a perfect size for these little rugrats. See? I told you that you should have gotten some of the instacages at the Denver show! :D If you want some, they are still at my mother's house waiting for me when I come back out in 2 weeks (b/c I'm too cheap to have them shipped back to me...:p). I'll give you a good deal....;););)

Best of luck to you with your cristatus!! They are awesome!! You will have to keep us apprised on your progress with them.

When I first saw your avatar I kept thinking "where have I seen that before?" We met at the Pomona show earlier this year. You had a bunch of T-shirts for sale and I bought a couple of your beaded chameleon pins. :) You would do well to sell them here if you haven't already thought of it.

Nice little rudis (sternfeldi). They seem huge in those photos which I can't help but think of as a good sign.

I have one female that is huge. So she's probably going to unload any day. I'm so nervous. I also have a red female and she's starting to fatten up. Unfortunately I caught her a few times with her tail up in the air and I didn't have a male to offer her. But maybe some will be fertile.

Good luck with your babies.

This is probably a stupid question, but what do you mean by this? they're live bearing, yes?

Chamelisa:

Thanks for your support at the Super Show - come back and see me in San Diego!! :D Yeah, I've thought about placing my stuff on the forum, but one thing at a time - I need to update my website first! It hasn't been updated in, like, 9 months!!:eek:

And good luck to you with your babies!! I knew it was time for her to start having her babies b/c the night before she was just resting on a nice thick horizontal piece of wood and her stomach muscles were contracting - I knew it would be soon.
