Other reptiles as a result of keeping Chams.

I have 3 different local wild lizard species that live in (my walk-in enclosures) or around my (screen cage) collection of Chameleons. Does any one else have animals that benefit from loose crickets and supers? Or a warm toasty garage in the winter.

My dog. (Yes Im WELL aware its not a reptile...) LOL.. He is a cricket finder. He corners them and barks like crazy!!

Im assuming you Free range then? Id be afraid I would lose the cham/lizard..

Last summer I had an alligator lizard that was a repeat offender of breaking into some cages that were outside. I had to "relocate" him.

Also had a problem with widow spiders when I had a large amount of fruit flies and pin heads. I turned into a spider assassin for a few days and finally got it under control.

Great idea for a thread. I got this pair of wc bufo and made them a great cage that I thought would be high enough for them so they could not get out. I was wrong, so ever since then I just let them roam in my basement they eat everything, I never see any bugs, extra crickets or anything. I will leave a tupperware of crickets out in the middle of the floor for them some nights.

around a year now. My basement stays warm with all of the chams and frogs so they just follow each other around. They have been treated and cleared for everything. I get them checked out around every two months since they are on the floor, but they really seem healty and enjoy it so I let them be. I have scattered spots of long fiber spagum moss they hang out in from time to time.

That is actually really clever. If I had a basement setup like that, that would be an awesome idea.

My chams spend time in my greenhouse and that is usually where I keep the crickets. I have reached in to get crickets out of the cricket keeper and found anoles munching down on them.

Update. I found some other lizard eggs the other day

Found this girl with a group of eggs last weekend ( in my garage ). I have to say, springtime is my favorite time of year. Days get longer, NBA playoffs.

We took in Dulce, a Cuban Knight Anole back before Christmas. They run wild south of here but not usually as far north in FL as where I live.

I had a wave of tiny baby geckos that seemed to be hatching in my reptile room and were running around the cages catching crickets and fruit flies. One got into my Jackson's cage and met an untimely end! And then for a while we would leave the bin of crickets outside, partly open because they smelled s bad, and I when I would go out there all sorts of gecko species would run out of the bin. I didn't mind feeding the wildlife for a little while.

And finally, there was the leopard gecko that escaped from her tank and disapeared for SEVEN MONTHS before we saw her again chasing a cricket under the fridge. And she looked great! A little thin but not too much. She'd been living off the loose crickets just fine.

I had a loose golden gecko for about 6 months (finally found her & put her back in her cage but she was quite healty when she went back in) & my cats free range in all but the turtle/tortoise room & the cham room. If crickets or any other bugs get out (or bugs get in) they don't last longer then a day in my house.

I have stupid house geckos everywhere in my guest house where my chams live. They get into my bug containers, lizard cages, they poo all over my walls at night, it drives me bananas! But since I love lizards its hard to be mean to them. Ive also found green house frogs IN my cages and a cuban tree frog hanging out by a cage one nite. I once had a knight anole who lived outside the window of my old cham room. It was so attracted to the room for some reason. I would go out and feed it. I even named it Perry.

I am on a bench in a valley so I am more likely to come across a rattler than an amphib. That or a rodent.

Same here except the bunnies and if you know anything about raccoons or skunks you stay away. Although, I'd love to see someone try hand feeding one of them a cricket I don't think it would be pretty.

If you live in Florida and rotate plants from outside, it's inevitable that you'll have some hitchhikers. We had a few Anoles hatch in our cages that ended up becoming food for the residents. We also have a vivarium that houses a female T. deremensis with an Anole and Florida Green Tree Frog. The anole and frog were both rescues from the frosts we had this winter and seem to enjoy their safe new home.

We occasionally have stray anoles in the cham room that pick off any loose crickets and such but they come and go as the door is opened and closed.
