OOPS - hubby NOT happy - ?'s on horn pupating

HA - this may be just what triggers my divorce ( jk - we have been married 19 yrs - and still going strong ) BUT..... I am following the blog on breeding horns - an EXCELLENT source of " how to " but, the worms I THOUGHT were ready- had other ideas- and at 11 pm , we all in the dirt, looking happy- well, at 5 am - they were ALL OVER our room - yes, he stepped on one in the dark sooo, now I am wondering - WHY are these guys not staying in the dirt ? they dig under, but at night seem to keep coming back out? I did not think they could get out of the pan they were in - WRONG- LOL they are already in a new JAIL they can not get out of - is this normal for them to make a few "test runs" before they stay put? ( p.s. - if anyone has any good "make up" ideas - could use a few )

Cheryl, Dave is just going to kill you, that is all there is to it. I will think and see if I have any ideas.

I don't trust bugs of any kind! The only king I do not have covered are silkworms, that are less then 1/2 inch. Even those need to be covered, I just don't know where the lid to their container is.

Hi cheryl,

Once they start to turn a yellowish color and have the pulsing vein on their back, they will stop eating and start "wondering". They will cruise all around for a day or two before staying put. I usually put the container of dirt inside a screen cage and each day just keep putting them back in to the dirt. Or I use an extra large critter keeper since they can't climb it.

Looks like I need to add this tip to my blog.

yes, you may want to send that ticket to me- I may just come live w/ you after I go to Las Vegas he is SERIOUSLY not happy, I can not even say what he said - but he is a good man, and it was hard not to yell at him for killing one- I forgive him ( is that one sided thinking ) - good thing summer is on the way - everything moves outside for the summer- even the feeders ~

maybe - lol - but I am having fun w/ them - just not the jail break but I should have known better - I almost did put a lid on , but they are so fat, and stiff- I did not think they could still really move - I LOVE your blog, Dave even checked it out- and he is no fan of bugs- but he thought it was pretty cool - he asked me ( with fear in his eyes !! ) " does she do a roach one? "

I am planning to do some updates to both blogs so I'll take note of your jailbreak lol. It's pretty funny. I have also started detailed spread sheets on timing to try to see variations w weather and methods. Now that I have photo bucket I can do 1 page blogs rather than the pieces I did before given the picture restrictions on the forum site.

I plan to add isopods, snails and roaches as well. I'm just working to gather the right pictures and data. Will be complete very soon.
