once AGAIN - record lows for our area - I have not be able to leave a cham outside over night for over 10 days - and hardly able to take them out in the day

so my question is.. am I doing "harm" to their natural cycle by all the temp/s they are getting - like, one day its 90, low of 70- the VERY NEXT day- it will be high of 68, low of 42 - WTH ?? - so the temps the chams are getting are all over the place - am I better just to keep them inside ( nooooooo :( :( ) and keep a stable temp on all of them - I take them out, then back in... in for days due to the cold - then back out for a few hrs - UGH ! lol - and the worst part is, its messing up my new build- I need to completely remove my big downstairs cage, the wiring, and mistking stuff to plumb a drain for the new one - the only way to do this is to take this huge cage out, and leave it - is there a SAFE way to heat a cage at night ? the cage is 6' tall ( the lower part holds the mistking, ect ) X 3.5' long X 2.5' deep - how would I heat this at night ? it has 3 Jax girls in it ~

And I thought Oregon's weather was bad

LOL - I was just thinking about that - today is sunny in AM -high of 72 ( hurry, everybody out :p ) , then in the afternoon- temp drop, cold rain the rest of the day ( hurry, everybody in  ) , until Wed - cold & wet :( - whats a poor cham to do  :p

I hear ya! Ohio is cursed, we can have all 4 seasons in one day. No need to fear, I'm sure Aug and Sept will be in the 90's again :p
I was just going to post a thread related to our awesome Ohio weather. My question is; Do any of you have a plan for your chams in case of a tornado (I don't have a basement yet)?! I NEVER thought id have to worry but just the other day we had dark clouds, still trees, green sky and then the sirens :eek: I couldn't believe it since we are only a mile from lake erie!!! Luckily it passed with no touchdown. They come so quick I barely had time to grab all my dogs and medicine.

Btw, sorry your Chams are getting the short end on weather  I don't know what advise to give since my dude stays inside. I feel bad though too since he rarely gets any outside time lately. He so misses his sun.

yes, that is what the news said this AM- if you dont like it cold, hang in there - Aug/ is suppose to be on avg/ 15 degrees HOTTER than normal, as to how July is 15 UNDER - its a good thing in a way they said that, I just saw it this AM - we made plans to close our pool this weekend , so cold no one has used it AT ALL this summer so far - so we decided to leave it open - hope the weatherman is right ~
I do not have a "tornado" plan, other than to get them in the house if needed, and into our " safe" room in little coolers - but as you know, sometimes , there is just no time - more than once the storms come so fast ( as in this thread - lol https://www.chameleonforums.com/my-chameleon-brooche-s-130442/ ) , there is hardly time to get them in the house, let alone there vet coolers ~ I hate that green sky, and it always smells weird too - my old house was hit by one, it moved it 2' sideways off the foundation - it was an old farm house- before I lived in it- but the whole house made it, just has a weird twist on the floors- they never did fix it ~ I live in a log cabin, worried about that UNTIL we went to add the fireplace, it took us 2 days with chainsaws and pry bars just to make a small hole in the wall- so I don't worry about them much - lol

Love that analogy!! Lol, angry apple picking :D
Yeah if I would have had time to "pick" Kai out of his sleep, he would have been one too! Thats crazy your old farm house was moved but otherwise stayed intact. I can't wait to get out of this paper mache modern condo! Hoping to find a turn of the century home. They just don't make em like they did back then.

I am so sorry. This weather is my fault. This past Wednesday my pool was open and swimmable for the first time in two years! I plan to leave it open until at least Thanksgiving because I am sure it will be unseasonably hot!:)

WHAT
we are gonna get ya :p
yeah, this winter setting many record lows - like 20 BELOW 0 for days, and summer setting even more record lows, so that means it will be 80 if Feb/ next winter - :p and what makes it even worse- the weatherman is almost never right - the weather rock is for sure much more accurate - ;)

I move my guys in and out daily and they seem fine with it. It's sooooooooooo hot here they can only go out for the first 3-4 hours of the morning then it's time to come in. I'm lucky if they can stay out past 11am.

Kenya and Tanzania have the odd weather variations within a specific season too. Those variations are part of their natural cycle and chameleons are able to survive them.

so you think they will be ok to leave out ? only one is a w/c ( I think from Fl / Hi - I am sure she is not from Kenya or Tan/ ( I wish tho- would be some nice new blood :) ) - the other 5 are cb, and 2 are panthers - the only up side to all this weather, the other day is was so foggy - the Jax loved it :) but the night temp are so cold and damp - I just worry its to cold and damp

I leave my animals outside as long as it stays in the 50's and have never had ill effects, temperatures swing in nature too, I will bring them in however, if it get into the 90's that's when I see them getting uncomfortable!
