I've heard that when you bring home a new baby (human baby) your not supposed to put it in a room that has been recently painted. Does the same thing apply to baby chameleons? My room was painted within the past week and I'm just trying to be as safe as possible. (I hope I'm not asking too many questions >.< that's like my third today).

Yeah, I think so too. I don't even know how the human baby thing works but I doubt it would be more than a week. I am gonna have some artwork finished on the walls though that my friend is doing. He'll be finished tomorrow though, so I think I'll just order him when I'm ready in a few days.

I believe it's the fumes you need to worry about. By the time you get your cham, the paint should have settled.

As long as the paint isnt "off gassing" you will be fine.

Off gassing is the release of particles into the air as a liquid dries.

Obviously you would not want to breath in any chemicals if you dont need to. An adult, baby, and a chameleon can all be negatively effected by fumes from paint (and other substances). However, they are much more harmful to a baby because they are still new to the world, fragile, and at a critical point of development. Chameleons lungs are supposed to be very sensitive to paint fumes, air fresheners, ect., just anything unnatural that isnt fresh air.

Most if not all paints should have "curing" information on the container, that you should be able to use to figure out how long you need to wait. However, if you can smell the fumes, even a little, the substance is still off gassing. So to be sure you wont harm the animal, Id advise waiting until you can no longer smell the fumes, after not being around them all day.

The type of paint makes a big difference ! Latex paint dries quick with little or no toxic fumes but oil based paints take 48 hours plus to properly dry with no side effects.

Always use a zero voc paint and then you don't have to worry about it.
Otherwise, wait at least a week and open the windows to let fresh air in and off gassing out

Thanks

Thanks for all the input guys. The scent of the paint I am using only lingers for about 2 days. So I'll defiantly crack the windows and should be ready before the arrival. If not I will just keep him in a different room till I'm sure it's safe. =P
