Not drinking??

My 6-7 month old veiled I don't think has been drinking very much lately. I heard that if their poop is a yellow color that they r dehydrated? I mist her a bunch and when I'm gone I put the dropper on... I just saw her sitting on a branch with her mouth open?? I don't see her drink so I am a little worried...

sometimes you think they are not drinking but they are. Some chameleons rarely drink in front of their owners. If the urate is yellow then what you suspect is probably right and she is probably not getting enough water. You can try dripping the dripper through the screen directly on your chameleons nose. That is the only way I can get my one guy to drink. As far as the opening of the mouth, is that under your basking light or just in any area of the cage? You cham could be too hot. The other reason they hold their mouths open is when they have a respiratory infection. Not saying it is that, but that is just one of a few symptoms of that illness.

Does she have a place to ditto show you when she needs to lay eggs?
How long was her mouth open for?
Can you post a photo please?

The temp might be too hot for her to have her mouth gaped. What is the basking and ambient?

The temp has to b no higher than 85 degrees. 90 maybe at the very most. He was sitting right under the heat lamp so you would think if he was too hot he'd b smart enough to move away from it...?

she was right under the light when her mouth was open. when i clean her cage i take her out and put her in this plastic bin with plants and she drinks tons of water from there.. but i dont like to do that too often cuz when i handle her she gets really stressed out. how do u know if they have a respiratory infection and what can cause it!!!???

the guy at the place i bought her from said she wouldnt lay eggs.. even tho i read online that they all do... so idk what to do about that... her mouth was only open for about a minute or two then when i opened her cage and sprayed her she stopped.

if she is only doing it under the light, then it is probably just a little too hot. Resp Infections can be caused by the environment being too damp. They wont always move away from the area if it is too hot. They open their mouths to cool down that way.

how does he know she won't lay eggs? They can lay eggs without being mated. They don't need a male, they produce infertile eggs on their own.

There's been cases even as early as 3-4 months. Right now I'd have the forum check everything this guy told you, because I doubt he knew that much if he thought she'd never lay eggs.

no need to be sorry. You just want what is best for your chameleon. If she gapes for long periods of time, has stringy saliva in her mouth(more than usual) as they have some, they can also make a wheezing or a kinda popping noise. These are things to look out for. Most likely she is fine.

i dont see any of that going on. when i try to touch her to move her to clean her cage or something, she will kinda hiss at me. but she doesnt do it when she is just sitting there so i dont think she is wheezing or anything.

If it's hissing then she's just angry. Do you want me to post the how to ask for help form for you to fill out, so if you were mislead by the petstore guy we can help?

Here you go. Also, we all love pictures of them! Don't be shy with them, as long as she doesn't kill you. :D

It's not always easy to tell when hey will lay eggs which is why I always recommend providing the container of washed playsand for her to dig in to show you when she's ready. Failure to provide a proper egglaying site can lead to egg binding and death.
