you can get away with soapy water for some plants, but some are just too bushy to do this with. what i do is just have them sprayed in the shower for a good 5 minutes, you should ask lowe's what the if and what they spray with. and if further information is available, see what their supplier sprays them with. i only rinse mine in the shower, because where i live, is a tropical plant garden that sells tons of tropicals all year round, the re-pot their own plants and spray them with a sunlight dishsoap and water mix to keep bugs off. i still take them home wash them and re pot them.
some keepers use organic soil, but i personally dont care what it is, im not much of green thumbs and fingers, but fertilizer and such would help the plant more, just leave about an inch 1/4 from the top of the pot and cover the soil with a layer of substrate and river rocks
dont rinse or use warm water, its like lettuce and the leaves will wilt if exposed too long
