Looks very nice. What kind-O Chameleon is going in it? I especially like that you can utilize the base for storage, electric, timers, yada yada yada...
Hey guys sorry I'm just now responding. I have a rudis chameleon going in there And yes I have a mesh kind of ceiling I attached around the lights so he can't burn himself. I was also careful about how high I put the vines up. He LOVES that light and I don't want him to get too hot. I attached the front of the mesh with magnets. They clasp together, but I might change it to something more secure. He's not very big and rudis chams don't get very large but I definitely don't want him getting out!
But yeah he loves it so far! He's been eating crickets from my hand every morning too, so I know he's not stressed. Thanks for the replies
That was my thought as well.. Looks like you're using a dripper. Are you not misting as well? Water is going to go right through that wood on the bottom in a short time and cause molding. (i know from experience)
Very nice looking! But like the others, my first thought was that wood. I would take it apart, sand the wood, and paint it with marine paint, let cure 24 hours, then seal the edges with silicone, cure for 24 hours. Would also move this outside so there are no fumes in the house for your cham. And then I would take it one step further, and drill a hole a put a drainage fitting of sorts in. That shelf would make a perfect spot for a water collection bin.
For the front and back screening. You can make your own screens, I do this all the time, that size you will need assistance in pulling the screen tight. You can get aluminum window tracking(will need to be cut to size and edges sanded, you will need the corner pieces too, the plastic ones work fine) from home improvement stores and the screen(remember to get the coated kind). You can get kits that have the rubber tracking and rolling tool, it helps but most of the time I use a butter knife to push in the screen. You could make two doors for the front and for the back, add hinges and a latch, and voila! Escape proof and water/mold resistant!
