Hi guys!

I finally bought a blue barred ambilobe from screameleons today!! The sire is Gerard, I hope this juvi meets the dad's expectations!! (jk it will be great if he turns out gray too!!)

I will post some pics when he arrives...

Anyone from Minnesota that owns a cham??? It tends to get ridiculously cold in my house at times, any tips or thoughts?

Thankssss

Andres

yes it is my very first... I've done research like for a year now though. It's very exciting!!!

So like what do I do at night? The lights turn off or something? My house can get really cold and this winter is not going to be the exception, any tips???

I'm not in Minnesota -- I'm in Winnipeg, and it gets colder here! If you keep your house temperature "liveable" for yourself, then your cham should be fine. You don't need a heat lamp on at night, but if your house is chilly put a heater in the room to warm the whole room. I had a problem with low humidity as soon as the weather cooled. It gets REALLY dry here in winter. I put more real plants in the enclosure, and mist more often, for shorter periods of time. So far so good. If I'm feeling a bit chilly I know it is cold for the critters, so I turn up the heat.
Congratulations!!

I'm in Michigan, and from St. Paul originally. Our thermostat is at 60 at night (the lowest), and that's been fine for my blue-barred Ambilobe (I talked with the breeder beforehand to make sure I didn't need supplemental heat). I don't know that I'd want to go much below 60.

Thanks guys, yeah I'm thinking a heater inside the room will be the best thing to do. Ugh I hate this weather... So night lamps are a big no. Right?

Night lamps that give light (even red light or "moonlight") can disturb the chameleon. A ceramic heatlamp, which radiates only heat and no light, is a possibility if the cham can't touch it, and if you test anywhere he can get with a temperature gauge before leaving him unattended with it.
