My Veiled Chameleon bites his tail

My Veiled Chameleon bit his tail a few months ago. It turned black and looks dead. He's going to be 5 years old and has never done that before. It seems like his health has gone down hill from about a year ago when he fell. He hurt his back and has never fully recovered from that. His spine seems to have healed but he doesn't climb anymore. His back legs seem to be too weak. He eats and drinks normally but now I noticed that his right eye looks watery. He's been to the vet several times in the last year. I stopped going to the first vet because he said that the bump on his head was normal. I didn't believe that so I took him to another vet. This vet found out that he had a bacterial infection on his head and had me give him antibiotics and topical ointment for the infection. That didn't change anything. Then the next vet ran test. Again bacterial infection, said that the anti-bacterial ointment wasn't a good idea because it doesn't allow the infection to dry out. Neither of the newest vets said anything about his tail even after I kept telling them all of my worries. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi!

I'm sorry you are having issues.

I strongly suggest you complete the https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/ form. Copy the questions in that link, paste them into a reply, add your information.

You've done very well by your chameleon (as he's lived so long) so I sincerely doubt there will be issues with your husbandry, but in my experience, filling out the form is helpful so I really recommend it.

Have you looked at the Vet list? https://www.chameleonforums.com/area-area-country-vet-list-32880/

You might want to see if there is someone in your area who is recommended.
