I really need help, I just notice that my jackson cham is not eating he can barely hang on, I also notice he has a swollen eye, and when I tried to pick him up very quickly he turned dark (losts of stress) he also opened his mouth like gasping for air..I am really worried he is my baby, and I am not able to get a hold of the vet till tomorrow, can someone please provide me with some advise, thanks

male jackson cham, i've had it for about 6 months
he gets picke up and out the cage atleast 4 times a week
eats large crickets sprinckled with calcium powder eat about 3 to 5 daily
he gets sprayed daily and we give him droppes of water too
fecal color black and white, have never been tested for parasites
screen cage pretty big, shares it with a female
temperature between 84-87f
we try to keep him moist
the cage is in my son's room at room temperature
New England-Connecticut
has a bulb for heat and a uv bulb for night
can't grasp, not eating, opens the mouth like gasping for air and has a swollen eye
other then when we tried to pick him up his color was normal

Hopefully some one with more experience will chime in. but I've been researching jacksons as I'm getting one (tomorrow). F

First off your temps are to high for a jacksons. You want the main part of the cage to be in the low 70s with a basking spot in the low 80s (to high of temps could be causing him to hold his mouth open, if not it could be a respiratory infection)

Next it's not real clear what type of lighting your using . what's the band, type and wattage? Also how old is the uvb light? And is it a UVB or just a uv or uva? also no lights at night, if you need heat use something that doesn't put off light (like a ceramic heat emitter) chances are you don't need heat unless your house gets really cold at night, in fact jacksons need a bit of temp drop at night (like 60ish, even cooler maybe ok)

there's more that maybe issues but I don't have time to type it all out right now, hopefully some others can add to it and point you in the right direction. This is a great site, you should do a search on jacksons care, as well as gut loading your feeders (you didn't mention if and what you are gut loading with)

temperature between 84-87fI think this would be to high of a temp for your jacksons. What are the ambient temps? Maybe someone who keeps jacksons will input on good temps.

Judging by his behaviors, moist conditions and your avatar I would say he has a respiratory infection among other possible problems. There are lots of things wrong with your husbandry. Your animal sounds severely sick and the only way you are going to have a chance to save it is to take it to a vet ASAP! Find a reptile vet, one with cham experience if possible, tonight and take him there in the morning. By the way its sounding a vet might not be able to help it either

not sure of the kind of bulbs one is the spiral heat and the other is for night both were recommended by the shop whe they were bought
i just notice in the cage many clor white fecal

how can I lower the temps

I am really worried, he can barely hang on to the branches and the right eye is really swollen.

It's actually the third.. Haven't been able to get specifics on husbandry on any of the three.

Yeah, let him get some real sleep. Chameleons lights should go out at night. He may have metabolic bone disease also if the UVB light was only on at night. He was probably trying to sleep and not soaking up any UVB. Both basking and UVB should be on in the day and off at night. No lights are required or other heating elements.

There may be a serious infection if his eye is swollen.. Post some pics.. I had a panther that I bought (not knowing) that it had a massive infection.. Most likely it passed away because I returned it to the reptile shop..

I haven't had experience with jacksons, but I think they like higher humidities.. If you have a screen cage it's hard to keep it up.. Mist the cage more often and have a dropper system available all the Tim so he can drink and wash things put of his eyes.

Finally, if you supplementation (calcium w/o d3 every feeding, with d3 2x a month, multi vit 2x a month) isn't done properly it can lead to gout, MDB, and many other things.

This is why I asked you if you could fill the questions in as detailed as possible (names of things with brand names, type of bulbs,humidity levels, temps around the cage, etc).. All that information helps a lot

both lights were on during the day..what is the suggestion on the type of lighting? this really just happend in the last 2 days verall he has always been very active, any suggestion on the swelling of the eye. I really appreciate any help, comments or suggestion..
