My first shedding experience.

Today when I got up I saw a few cracks near the base of Samson's tail. 15 mins later the whole top of him was white and starting to shluf. I went out of the room to play a little Modern Warefare 2. Came back 2 matches later to a really crabby cham that looked like a chicken with ruffled feathers, lol. I laughed as he scooted his body along the branches like a dog rollin in squirrel poo. He used his back legs to scratch at his under arms all that was missing was a shower cap and louffa, lol.

He was so crabby he moved closer to me in his cage just to display at me, I laughed so hard. I took a bunch of pics that I will post when I get home and get my camera charged. All in all it took him a little less than 2 hours from start to finish, I was pretty amazed. I wanted to know if this is an average time frame. I only have had one other reptile (anole) when I was younger and it would take him half a day to shed.

Also, he ate right before his shed, snagged a rogue cricket or two during and then ate 2 hornworms after! I was under the impresion that they didn't generally eat when it is shed time. He's a damn pig.

Mine will eat when he's shedding and its the only time he seems to like being misted directly. Try misting him lightly next time you see him starting to shed and see if he doesn't come out to get directly in the mist. The extra moisture helps with the shed and seems to make him more comfortable.

I could try that, mine actually likes being misted though. I have seen him sit 3" from the nozzle just getting hosed! I use a fish tank heater to make the water always above 90, so he likes the warm mist. He has never had a hint of anything but white urates since I got him.

It happened so fast and really looked pretty problem free for him....as problem free as you could feel when your entire body loses its top layer of skin.

how long do your chams usually take to shed?

mine female veiled takes any wheres from 2-3 days to shed completely :)

Wow really? How old is she? I wonder if it takes longer as they get older?
I was so surprised by the fact that in 2 hours he only had some leftover skin on the pads of his feet. It came off in such large pieces, very healthy shed I would say. The skin was so paper thin, it felt weird between my fingers. Almost like Styrofoam. I have some good photos over the course of this time that I will post up tomorrow most likely, once my camera gets a good charge.

Hmmm makes me wonder. Had my 4 mo for a month and haven't seen a shed yet, wonder if I missed it.

You would definitely have to see the shedded skin in your cage. It will be all over the place. I have to clean out the cage after mine sheds cause it drops everywhere. How long have you haad your cham. The young ones shed about every 4 weeks.

oops! I see you had it for a month(sorry I just got up this morning) dah! It probably hasn't shed yet then.
