Hey everyone, im a new member. Just got my cham a couple months ago. Still not positive on age or gender but i think its a female and around 4-6 months. The pet store gave me a glass aquarium but he didnt seem happy in it (always a brown color and clawing at the sides):(. So i got him a medium size Repti-Breeze screen cage and put a ficus in it with some fake foliage and a vine. I use a little dripper and spray him down 3-4 times daily. I feed him crickets, mealworms, superworms, and the occasional waxworm dusted in a calcium supplement almost every day. Ever since hes been in the new cage (about 2 weeks now) hes eaten ALOT more :D. Please comment if you have any suggestions on how i can make him any happier. I will try to post a picture but idk if it will work.

Hi!:)

welcome to the forum..you will find alot of great info here ....not to mention very friendly people ready to help you and answer all your questions....i believe you might have a female close to six months...but just a guess....sexing veiled chams is easy...check at the back of the heel o nthe feet..if there is a noticable bump called a "tarsal spur" it is male ...females dont have any.....you can post pics of your chams feet at the back....so we can help you confirm what you have.....plus i hope more members will tell you advice on caring for veiled chams..."VeiledOwner87" knows Alot and has great experince with them, i beleive:D

good luck and hope for the best :D:cool:

Good thing!

Well, you did a good thing by getting rig of the glass aquarium... they are not good to keep Chams in... screen enclosures are the way to go so good to hear you figured that out and already made the change. Plus, by doing so you are already seeing improvement and that's great! Good luck with him/her... Yes, check the back feet as recommended for sexing.

Alright thanks alot guys :) im liking the site very much so far and im excited to continue posting and getting feedback. I will continue to put pictures up as she matures.
On a different note...if my cham is indeed a female around 6 months old, when can i expect her to start wanting to lay her eggs? just so i can start preparing.. i have no intention on mating her yet but i hear they will lay infertile eggs anyway... so any help would be appreciated:)

There is a member on here by the name of Jannb she is a very knowledgable source of information on Veilds and I'm sure she wouldn't mind giving you good advise. You can also use the search bar and seach for Veild info and I'm sure Jannb will come up she has some care sheets she posted and I think some of them talk about egg laying and females... You might consider contacting her if you cannot find the link... (Sorry to out you Jann but you are so fantastic with your Veilds!)
:p
