My chameleon wont eat

Hey guys i am very worried for my veiled chameleon Greengo i got him on 12/30/14 he drinks water perfectly fine but he does not want to eat i dont know what to do please help

When did you get him? 12/30/14 has not arrived yet?? lol If you just got him, sometimes they will not eat for the first few days as they are stressed being in a new place. I see you live in Florida. Have you tried getting him out in the sun? That will usually perk them up.

You have only had him a couple of days. Try letting him settle in more. what size are your feeders? If they are too big he might not eat them. Are you cup feeding, letting them loose??

I try to hand feed him nothing i let them loose nothing its smaller than the space between there eyes

Can you post a picture of the chameleon and your set up?. Maybe there is something in your set up causing him not to eat. Also, again it may take a few days for him to eat. Are you sure he has not eaten any of the ones that are loose?

Sorry but im new to this how to i upload a pic because im using this website on my phone

Hello and Welcome!

Congrats on the new chameleon but I have some bad news for you :(. You are going to have to make some changes to your enclosure to make him happy. First things first, can you fill out the ask for help form? It is located at the very top of the health forum in Stickies. You can cut and paste your answer to each question. Please fill it out completely.

What I notice first is that his eyes are closed in the picture. If he has been doing this frequently, it is a bad sign. Your cage is incorrectly set up. Did you get the cham from Petco or Petsmart?

The temps are too high. Since it is glass, you will need to watch temps and humidity closely. Your temp in the bottom of the cage should be around 70. Your temp under his heat light should be 83. He will need a larger cage when he gets about 6-10 months. You will prob go with a screen 2x2x4 cage. You should also remove the dirt on the bottom of the cage. It poses a health risk to chameleons who could ingest it and die. You should put in 1 or 2 live plants, pothos or schefflera are good.

You need to add a lot more leaves and branches. He needs to be able to sun himself under the light.

It is good you are here now, once you make all these changes his health should improve and he should start eating.
