Modified fridge as incubator for cham eggs

Hi All

My first and only incubator was a homemade one. It is a refrigerator with a build in thermostat and heating mat in the bottom. This way the temperature can be controlled both up and down, and the insulation is good for keeping a stable temperature.

Any thoughts on using a modified fridge as incubator? It is significantly cheaper than the incubators that you buy, so I am wondering what the trade-off is? I haven't used the incubator much - only for a clutch of C. Malthe, which was not successful, but that could be for many reasons...

I built one from an old 4' tall freezer, with thermostat & computer fan to circulate air & moisture! 5 gallon bucket on top piped down to the side and into a plastic shoe box with a float shut off valve! Worked good for me! I used an electric strip you wrap around water pipes to keep them from freezing in cold weather!
