Laying bin

What is a good size for a laying bin? can you use a plant pot?

Hi. I’ve found that my girls preferred a bin that is at least 12” long/wide. I suspect they also like deep too so that they feel more hidden. However I only fill it to about 6” with washed play sand.
This is what I use.

Does it need to be okay sand? Or can it be planting soil

I’ve used this sand for years because it doesn’t seem to cause impact ions if ingested, doesn’t cause eye infections if it gets in the eyes, holds a tunnel well and they seem to like it…
