Just Arrived!!! Baby veiled from Brad Ramsey

Looks great!
FYI I am not using a basking light on them just the 5.0.
Temps go down to 63 in the cham room at night ... and he's used to it, I'm sure he wouldn't complain if it were a little warmer but you don't need the heat lamp if you want to stop using it.

I only put it on there for a little heat, he seems to like to be under it, but as you can see, it's about 10" off the plant, it's also only a 40w bulb. Thank you for the info though. I might stop, it's been staying about 70 in the house.

baby veileds are i dare say some of the cutest :) congrats!

o wow he is amazing! congrats to you and brad!

Gosh thats cute! Gotta love baby Reptiles! Looks nice and robust too, well done Brad! Congrats :)

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I agree, well done to Brad.

Side Note:

Oddly he crawled down out of his plant at some point last night and slept on the cage floor??? Is this usual? My other cham has never done this. I work
3rds so I didn't see it happen, but he was down there sleeping this morning when I got home. The lights just came on, usually I go to bed, but I wanted to see what he would do. Lights came on, he woke up, and climbed back into his plant. Should I be concerned?

I don't think you should be concerned.
You may want to add some more small branches for him to choose a perch from.
I assume he has been eating and drinking okay.

He didn't seem at all interested in the crickets, I put 6 in a cup tipped so he could see them, and let a couple free range, just in case. He just stared at them. I didn't see him eat any. There were only a couple left in the cup this morning, so hopefully he ate the others. I haven't seen him drink either, but I keep misting, and let the dripper go(not at night), so hopefully he is doing that as well. I'm trying to give him space since everything is new, but I also want to watch him and make sure.

He was eating 3 to 5 1/4" or a bit larger crickets a day here.
I decided to grow these guys slower and it has worked out well.
They were not cup fed, but he will get used to that.
What size crickets are you offering?

-Brad

What a cutie!

What a cutie! But then, would we expect anything less from Brad??!! You seriously need to enter him in a photo contest!

He's not in anything fancy right now, just a 10g with a large pothos pot and a couple fake leafy vines. I know alot of people don't like glass, but for this small it's much easier for me to control humidty and temp. without cooking or drowning him with the auto misters. I'll spray him by hand for at least a month. For those concerned about drainage. I have a glass bit, and the tank is drilled with a piece of screen hot glued over the hole. The 10g fits inside my new large cage,it drains into it, and it all gets drained into a container. If you absolutely must see it, here's a pic.

How easy is it to drill a hole in the bottom of a glass tank? I'm not familar with drill bits, could you tell me the tools you used? Because I am having drainage problems...

I don't really have options on sizes, I can get either small or large locally. Large being too big, Small being about 1/8 - 3/16. Unless I order some. I assumed that they weren't cup fed that's why I left a couple free range. I can't find them in the plant to take them out if he doesn't eat them though if I do that. I'll just keep offering, and monitoring and see what happens.

I will have to try that at some point, not sure if I can get a good enough shot with my point and shoot though.

It's a diamond drill bit, they're kinda pricey for decent ones. You can get them on Ebay, or find a glass shop that sells them. I paid around $45/bit for the ones I have. The drilling isn't hard, it just takes time 5-10+ min. depending on glass thickness. You have to keep it cool and wet also. Easiest to do outside, just turn a garden hose on about halfway and let it run while drilling. If done wrong you'll crack the bottom of the tank. It also cannot be tempered glass, you can't drill that, try... and you'll end up with thousands of little chunks when it shatters. I can be more in depth if you want to send me a PM, I may even have a .pdf file on it, I'll have to check if I hear from you.

I think I have determined why he didn't sleep in his plant. Apparently it wasn't draining completely, there was about a 1/2" of standing water in the plant, that I could not see through the leaves. I have drained and rasied the plant slightly higher off the bottom so it can drain better now. Hopefully this solves that issue. I have also added another vine to give him more sleeping options as Brad suggested.

That seems to have solved my problem. I came home this morning turned the light on(room not cage) and there he is sleeping in the plant. The room light woke him up(doesn't bother my other cham) and he climbed on his vine over to the glass where I was.
I put a blanket over the front of the cage since I know my light will wake him now. Checked on him about 5 min. later and he was asleep again on the vine by the glass. It's an odd, but nice feeling to now have a chameleon that doesn't seem to completely hate me. His temperment is a total opposite of my other cham so far. Thanks Brad, he is just too cool.

Sorry about the triple post, but no replies between my postings and all different information, didn't seem like an edit was the best choice. Anyway....

Woohoo!!!! finally saw him eat. It's a little late in the day, but I guess that's when he's hungry(must not be used to the time change yet....) I'm not sure what feeding schedule he was on... PM me that info if ya could please if you happen to come across this post in the next couple days and think it might be of some use. I'm just glad he's eating. He has done his business a couple times I found today. Urates are nice and white, so he's drinking also. All good news today!!!!:D:D:D

Personally i would get him on a "normal" eating schedule, only offer food in the mornings and take it out in the late afternoon early evening. Chams need heat to digest.

Good to hear all is well!

:D

I feed them in the morning and at that time they each get 2 to 3 crickets.
Again in the afternoon ... same amount.
I think it would be fine to put 5 to 8 crickets in the enclosure in the morning and be done for the day.
Most feedings are dusted with calcium (no D3) and once or twice a week I dust
with the D3 calcium.
Again, these were 1/4 to 3/8 inch crickets.

Normally this is what I do, but was goin on a 2nd day without eating so I kept offering at different times today. This time he just happend to want to eat. The lights are on until 11:00, so he has about 3 hours of light from the time he ate.
