Just a few random questions

I'm really nervous to set up a free range. Does everyone think my little guy would be ok? I'm such an over protective "mom" that I've never given my cham a chance to learn that "you can't walk on air or slippery things or you will fall". I'm afraid he is just going to slip off of a free range area or climb down and get into something and fall. He is not the smartest veiled around and tries to walk off of surfaces or walk up walls all the time

Secondly, I just ordered supplements from pangea and wondering if the ones I got are good/any better than what I had. I've been using flukers cricket diet and rep-cal. I ordered repti-calcium supplements, then repashy superload insect gut load and hydro load for my feeders. Will these work well? They sounded really good.

Finally does anyone know a good place to get good quality but cheap tube hoods and bulbs? I need two, one for uvb and one for a plant bulb. Lowes didn't have the right kind of hoods and the ones at the pet store were like $40-50 each. My boyfriend said basking bulbs wouldn't come in tubes, just to check, is this right?

you can get a good tube fixture from walmart it will just be a regular hood desk incandescent then buy a reptiglow 5.0 tube from a petstore and your good, as far as a heat fixture it is a bulb, i use a shop light and a regular house hold light.
The brand isn't too important as long as its a known brand the supplements should be, calcium without d3, calcium with d3 and a multivitamin
schedule is calcium every day without d3 then d3 and multivitamin twice a month, as far as free range its different and depends on the chameleon my panther doesnt roam untill recently, i think he's looking for a mate and chameleons can take a good fall once in the while, i tried free ranging and loved it but i went back to a cage as humidity was a issue for me

the cricket diet by flukers shoudl be refrigerated (didnt know this when i tried it) i also throw in some other good veggies with it to add variety

Edit: read entirelly if you want a double hood you can get one from lows where its a double tube i still recommend reptiglow 5.0 from the pet store then getting a 6500k grow light from the internet, unsure if any stores sell it check lowes for the grow light also

The best time to be over protective is when you are setting up the room/area and making sure that your cham can't get himself into dangerous places and/or situations. (Someone opening up a door on him, getting stepped on, being exposed to other pets, someone leaving a door open, etc.)

If he likes to walks up walls - attach some vines to your walls! I did and it is one of my chams favorite places to be. I wouldn't worry about your cham falling off of anything he is able to get a grip on. But, yes, he will probably end up somewhere he can't get a grip and may fall. My cham had to inspect every part of the downstairs and while inspecting the bookshelves he fell off - more than once - onto hardwood floors. He always seemed to be fine - I never was!

But he has a great time free ranging. Some days he hangs out. Some days he roams around nonstop - looking for a female, I'm sure. He also goes to the front door when he wants to go outside - I open it up for him and out he goes. Well, out WE go.

In either case, if you can do it safely, free ranging is a great thing, in my opinion. But it does come with lots of worries, especially in the beginning.
