Ivy almost died!

Competing male chams will often fight with rivals until one male successfully knocks his competitor off his branch, and onto the ground below.

Because of this, chams have evolved to be able to take a fall. They puff up when falling basically turning them into scaly airbags!
Isn’t that the truth !.

I’ll tell you I was so temped to after septiseye fall . His was not in his condo and it was completely my fault  . I would like to put a huge net in the whole condo .
I’m going to hobby lobby tomorrow and going to get some cargo net. I mean, why not? It will look cool and be an excellent safety measure.

Bill
I got one of those bungee cargo nets for a truck/trailer. They're a little large, but so is my free range. I spread it out and gave it a few days of direct sun prior to putting it to use. I really wanted one for birds (we also have a cockatoo) but a decent size one will run about $300.

The other alternative is to make one. You can get natural rope fairly cheap, the issue is the know how and time to weave it.

If you're looking to just make a small one, I use a bunch of the flukers fake vines (small) off Amazon. They're super cheap, like $2/ea. I made a basket weave pattern for my MBD girl as she has to access her laybin. I also added hand rails and a nice "dreamcatcher" pattern for her basking spot. Now I use the same concept for all my chams basking areas... it's a hit!

Best wishes!

Holy cow! I can't even imagine! My guess is that she probably had quite a shock between him invading her territory while gravid, and you rushing over to catch him. And then there's the fact that she is raising babies in her belly (inside the eggs), which is also taking a tole on her. I would definitely keep them separated , by more space, if that's possible. Have the vet take an xray of her so you can see if her heart is enlarged, her lungs have any problems, and even count the eggs so you have a head start on her laying. Have them pull bloodwork, too, just to make sure she isn't going into laying with any deficiencies. Best of luck, tomorrow! I can't wait to see your next update!

great idea, I’m always up for a diy solution!

She is acting completely normal. Going to vet tomorrow morning for a check up just to be sure she is ok. She ate two roaches yesterday with her normal gusto, still I’m worried because of the fact that she is gravid.

Bill
I’m so so happy to hear she is her normal self . I hope vet can answer why it happened . Peace of mind for you .

Sounds strange, but I wonder if she was faking it. Pretend like you're dead and the invader won't be interested in pursuing. Then, you get up and walk away a few minutes later.

I wonder if chameleon’s can have vasovagal syncope also known as ( neurocardio ) ?? If so it sounds like she could have had an episode of that if all else is ruled out .

Reptofreak that might be something to ask if it’s a complete benign episode .

The sad thing is that the vet probably won't know what happened, or why, so none of us ever will. And there just isn't any research out there that has been done, yet.

Oh I plant to ask a litany of question, unfortunately I live in rural Iowa and the vet isn’t a exotic specialist. That said I have known this vet for 25 years and he is very kind professional and thorough, so I have faith in him.

There are forums and such that veterinarians can use to talk to others and try to figure out the more complex cases. My vet used it when my Echo had a stomach torsion.

Ok guys just got back from the vet and he couldn’t find anything obviously wrong with her. He did blood work and a fecal, they are supposed to call me with the results in an hour or two. I opted out of doing an X-ray because I just couldn’t swing the cost so soon after Christmas. I’m going to be looking into getting her some pet insurance, that way cost won’t be such a problem if she does have issues in the future. I’ll update you guys on the results of the blood work and fecal when they call. If her bloodwork shows any signs of infection I may go ahead and bite the $400 bullet and do the xrays.

Does anyone have any recommendations on insurance that will cover the needs of a female chameleon?

Bill
