Hi
I live in the UK and I have been thinking of ideas on building a nice cage as any decent 1 over hear are to exspensive and the one's in the USA cost to much to ship.
I have thought about building it with wood, plastic pipes, aluminium and other things and havent ruled any of them out.
But I was wondering if one of these might be a good idea.

They are mini green houses. I was thinking of using the structure of it without the shelves and puting aluminium mesh around the outside.
Would need some sort of tray for the bottem aswell.

The 1st mini green house is
Width:69cm
Depth:49cm
Height:160cm.

So was thinking of taking the top quarter away to leave it about 110cm heigh and when my eggs hatch, putting back on as a seperate cage with there own lights and stuff, if that makes sence!

Does this sound abit crazy or is it a good idea?

I've used those before and the amount of water you'll be spraying in the cage, the frame will rust in no time. Heck, the frame on the one I used rusted without me evening watering what was in there!

Do you have the white plastic PVC pipe used in sprinkler systems for yards? It is very cheap, and there are threads on how to build a large greenhouse, and one recently on a 2x2x4 foot cage.:D

Might be different to the 1's in the UK. would be stupid if it did as there designed to go outdoors!

I'm thinking of getting something like this:

Have the out pretty much all year......

looks cool, Im keeping mine indoors tho so tats wayyyy to big for me!

Im glad people dont think my idea is compleatly stupid lol...this far anyway.

Wouldn't you need to put a UVB light in there? The plastic on yours and the one the OP wants will filter UVB. Kind of defeats the purpose of putting it outside.

No, says that the plastic is protected against UV...in other words, it wont damage it...like cause fading or cracking. The whole idea of a greenhouse is to create an environment for plants to thrive, and they need the UVs also, so the good stuff gets threw, just doesn't damage the material.

Also says: Transparent Poly Material for maximum solar performance

Yeah but UVB is probably still filtered to some extent. Eh it might not be. All I know is every piece of literature I've read say any plastic or glass will filter UVB. I would just use a UVB meter to see for sure. If it does, your only out a hundred bucks. Better that than six months down the road having 20 + Chams come down with MBD.

BTW plants don't need UVB. Just light in the right Kelvin range.

OHHHH horse pucky!!! they dont need UVB........lol Hmmm didnt know that.....think my Chams r MBD resistant anyways.......

Yea, guess I'll have to ask around garden centers or call them up to check.....

LOL. Wouldn't hurt to check, but I doubt very seriously they would know for sure what you are talking about. Seeing as plants don't use it, I'm pretty sure they know little to nothing about it. And they cetrainly wouldn't know if the UVB allowed to pass through a green house would be strong enough for reptiles.

Im planning on putting mine indoors and using aluminium mesh around it instead of the plastic cover it comes with.

I dont no for sure but I would put money on the plastic not allowing uv rays through it.
In the same way that glass will let light and heat from the sun but you will not get a tan sitting in a car with the window up
