how many phoenix worms should I feed?

Hello,

I got the medium size phoenix worms but I have no idea how much I should feed my 3.5 months old veiled cham.

On the other hand, are those substrates (come with the package) eatable? Do I have to "clean" the phoenix worm before feeding my cham?

Thank you in advance.

he can eat them daily. i usually feed off about 3-6 plus crickets.
and idont clean my worms off and have no problems.
(and you dont need to dust these)

I may very well be WRONG but I think they are in a bran mix which is harmless. What ever it is it won't hurt them

I too just got phoenix worms. I thought the bran stuff was food for the worms. i also beileve that they can live in that cup they come in for a few weeks. Correct me if im wrong.

Thank you for your quick response camimom. I just fed my cham 4 and he loved them!!! :D

I have crickets as staple food. 1 Silkworm per day, 1-2 horned worm per week. And now I have phoenix worm (it's hard to get in Canada). I think Kiwi (my cham) should be satisfied now. :D

PS Oh, two more replies while I was typing. Thank you guys.

They can.
I dont do anything with mine.
I let them sit there till i need to feed them off.
Just be wary, if you let them sit for too long, they will pupate and turn into soldier flies
Which i do on purpose someitmes, cuz the flying gets the boys interested.
but i didnt know that at first, and the first time i got them, and i let them sit, i open the lid, and 3 flies flew out. nearly gave me a heart attack!

crickets, silks and pheonix, are great foods.
be careful with the horns, they grow super super fast!

Thanks for the advance. Horned worm is the treat to Kiwi.

I fed horned worm with dandelion leaf and collard green to keep it alive.

I just feed silkworm chow I bought and made from mulberry farms.
And my guys love the hornworms.

Are wax worms the same as phoenix worms? I'm confused they look alike

No.
Waxworms are more fatty.
they are good for when you need to put some weight on a cham, but no extremely nutritious..
think- junk food for waxworms and veggies for pheonix.

but they can be fed off. i do about 1-2 worms per cham about once or twice every other week.

Worms

The bran in the phoenix worm container is just a substrate I dont believe they eat it, this is the same with wax worms as unless you have a honey bee colonly as they eat the honey from the colonly. Phoenix worms are the lavae of the black soldier fly and have amazing amounts of calcium in them. I never really used them as they are two small for some of my animals

I agree phoenix worm is a bit small in size. I have put them on feeding dish but they are rich in calcium.

I put 4 to 6 together in a dish prior to feeding, alot of the bran falls off. Then I put all of them in my palm and my chams will grab all of them at once, then its like a bigger size :D

i pick out however many im going to feed. I put them in a cup with a few grains of raw rice. shake shake shake and all the substrait falls off then i pick the worms out with a chopstick. (the substrait looks like moist saw-dust)

Thank you. Will give this a try tomorrow. :)

Any sawdust needs to be removed. Bran is okay. In fact, if you moisten in, they will eat it and grow.
