How do I handle?

Hey. So, I just got my male ambilobe Panther a week ago and am working on taming him or at least getting him to hand feed. I leave the door open whenever I'm in the room, and only close it when I go to school or when I'm not home. i was just wondering if I'm doing it right so far. Thanks.

Just take one finger and scoop under his chin and move it down to his back legs and he should step right on you. and never come from above, come where he can see your hand

He still runs or puffs up when I get my hand near him.

He's still adjusting to his new environment, so sticking your hand in there is only adding more stress on top of it. Leave him alone for a couple of weeks until he settles in a bit, and then you can slowly begin to see if he'll climb on your hand. If he puffs up or runs, then he is not ready and you should leave him alone. It takes a great deal of patience and even then, he may never warm up to you at all. In the mean time, try hand feeding with his favorite feeder, give him natural sun time, and/or set up a free ranging area for him. After a while, he may start to associate your hand with everything good and trust you more.

Love, patience and yummy food will eventually win him over! Angeles in there and spent time with him! One of the fears of leaving the door of his home open is that he could climb out ant to the top of the cage and reach the source of heat (heat emitter, light or whatever you use) and get burned! Please make sure it can not happen! Best of luck and enjoy you new Christmas present!

The baby panthers I raise gets handled every day from the moment they hatch! They are totaly used to it! I also do not sell them till they are comfortable with handfeeding!

I bought my male panther as a juvenile too. He was very skittish at first. I hand fed him to get him used to me. Because he seemed to hate it, I only handled him to remove him from the cage for cleaning. He would gape, hiss, and puff up at me. Months later, my boy passed through his grumpy "teenage" phase and he became friendly almost overnight. One day, I opened the cage door and he ran up on my arm. He just perched on my shoulder. Every chameleon has their own personality. Some tame quickly and others take a while to warm up to you.

What you might try is gradually working it up. What I mean by this is placing the feeder on a branch and have him whip it up with your hand near. After a while doing this, just grab the feeder and hold it with two fingers in range of his tongue.

Well he might be used to the breeder and not you.
