How do I get my chameleons to start drinking water???

Hiya I have read in various websites that in order to get my chameleons to drink water its beneficial to spray hot water from above the viv so that the chameleon thinks its raining and starts to drink the water and do that for 15 minutes ( But do it from far enougth away so that the water has cooled in the ait by the time it goes in the viv). Now my question IS do I mist the viv THEN start the dripper or do I do them both at the same time??? I just wanna make sure my chameleons are hydrated you see!!!


Another question is Ive had to do a lot of messing about and changing things in thier vivs so if they dont drink but eat for a week or so could that be due to stress??????

Please help!!!!!

the misting and the dripper at the same time is fine. the dripper should be going all day nonstop unless you need to refill it. and if you are wondering how to get your cham to drink from a dish. it just kinda does it on its own. my male who is 3 months has drank out of a dish since ive known him 2 months ago so its kinda natural for them to learn cant really teach them tricks...

Many chameleons will not drink with the owners in the room. Check the poops. There should be actual feces and a white part called the urate. If it is white they are hydrated, yellow means they need more water, and orange means they are dehydrated.

Kara is absolutley right! its cool to watch the chams drink fromt he dish or leaves my little guy plunges his head in and drinks it up its cute he gets a water beard after and i have a fake plant and he decided to try and eat the leaf cus it had water on it so after that i gave him so romaine lettuce and he ignored it. he enjoyed to fake plant alot (never really ate it just attempted)

Chams that drink from a dish are "very" rare and yes it's been noted that there are few that do it. However, this is not natural. The best way is to have the dripper positioned over numerous leaves with a trickle down effect. this is how they drink in the wild, when dew or rain trickles off leaves. You want to keep the dripper in the same place of the enclosure and your cham will learn where the water is. If my chams dripper has run out and they are thirsty, I will see them waiting by the leaves they know the water drips from.

i didn't really mean that they drink from dishes in the wild. but the just naturally learn how to especially from the petstores the way they keep the dishes in the cage thts why mine drinks from it... it has since the day i got it.. now i don't even know where i am going with this so im out

My previous panther, Thaxter, was much readier to drink from his dripper if he had previously been misted for 5-10 minutes. The water I use for misting is the water left over from boiling for my morning tea; it is very hot water to the touch when it went in the mister, but cools down to pleasantly lukewarm within 6 inches or so from the nozzle (I always spritz it on my hand before spritzing the cham to determine the appropriate distance for the appropriate temperature). My current panther will drink very readily from either misting or dripper. My first cham rarely if ever drank in front of me, but remained well-hydrated; as pssh said, look for the urates; they'll give you a good indication of how hydrated he is.

You can also offer Horn worms if they are big enough. Large Horn worms have a lot of liquids.

Is it natural that i see my 4 month old mosuala chameleons ribs and how do i know fo sure hes drinking if they dont want people watching when drinking
