Hey everyone!
i just kinda stumbled onto this site while looking up info on chameleons!
haha, (i dont have one) Ive been into fish keeping for the past 4 years and i kind of want to try something new. i know chameleons arent exactly easy at all, but im up for the challenge! In a few weeks ill have about $400. So i was just wondering if you guys could tell me alittle bit more about these guys! And what the best beginner cham's ?

I'm pretty new to chameleon keeping. About a month so far. I did research though before I purchased one and still gather up as much info as I can everyday. I've learned a lot so far and enjoy learning new things everyday. These guys are very knowledgeable on here and should be able to answer most of your questions. Chameleon keeping isn't the easiest but very rewarding and kind of addicting. Enjoy and good luck if you decide to get one.
 
Hi welcome to the forums :) veiled and panthers are usually what is recommended for a beginner chameleon keeper. Personally I say go with what your drawn to and research the proper care. Good luck on your endeavor!
 
well i like both,. Im really starting to like the veiled cham's. But Are they agressive? any help would be appreciated !

After only a few generations as being kept as pets, chameleons can be aggressive. But if you know what your doing and have a LOT of patients, a chameleon can become used to you and occasionally let you interact with it.
 
not gong to lie some chams are mean

ive herd veileds tend to be meaner then panthers but my veiled is a nice guy so uu never know. being u only have 400 id say veiled setups going to cost about 100 for a decent setup panthers are arouund 250ish veileds 40 to 70depending on where u get it. (usa) not sure on canada. nut you going to want to save cash for vet bills they do get sick and havee problems, plus u may want to save some cash for online food orders and other things like supplements (chances are you ma have to order those online to get all the right ones) as most pet stores dont have enough variety of good feeders... and they can get costly too... just a thought.
 
Veileds can be aggressive at times. but it depends on the chameleon.

My male veiled has grumpy moods. some days i can hold him, some days he hates me.
My hoehnelli, loves me always.

now some panthres can be horrible, and soome veileds can be sweet as pie.
just depends.

thanks! i know ill need a mister or some sort of drip system . ive heard you can set ice cubs on the top if its mesh and just let it drip? and in Canada it will probably be about the same! we have a store he that specializes in reptiles but What About the heater? im not sure how to heat an open air cage :confused:

we try to avoid ice cubes just cuz they dont really like cold cold water. but it can work, and some dont mind it.

you use a basking light. regular house bulb.
and if it drops below 50 at night, you can use a ceramic heat emitter.
 
okay! thanks for the info! i actually think i have a heating lamp at my house atm,. but i could probably pick one up if i get one. and can i use real branches or should i use the fake ones?

you can use real plants and real branchesm we recommend it in fact,
if you use real branches, bake them first to clean them.
real plants- make sure they are on our safe plant list.
click the resources tab up in the green bar, and then click safe plant llist.

ohkay! For fish keeping i usually just boiled the drift wood, so would that work aswell?

And ill probably just go with fake plants to start out!

you can use ice cubes but im not a big fan as the water coming off them is very cold. you can order a mistking and they have a warehouse in canada so its not a pain. in the mean time you can make a dripper out of a bottle or cup with a tiny hole in the bottom so it drips every few seconds.
as the heat you need to use a basking dome and bulb. you will want to create a basking area in the 90 degree area ( for veiled )
you place the bulb above the cage and creat a warm spot at the top and then lower in the cage will be cooloer so your cham can move to the right place to thermoragelate themselves.

How much do they usually cost?
 
medicine hat eh.. all my US chams go through the airport there.
you mean how much is a veiled? you should be able to find one for 100 or less without too much trouble.
the mistking is 99 for a started kit and it will be some of the best money spent next to the cham its self LoL

they are insectivores and typicall only eat moving prey. cricket are a main staple food esp, here in canada where other bugs can be hard to come by.
but depending on the type and age of the cham you will need to take crickets usually from a main bin with tp rolls inside and shake out however many you need / want into a smaller deli cup with the approipraite supplement and shake them to cover them then either realese free in to cage, or a feeding cup.
ill go get a basic care sheet and attach here to give you some basic reading.
