Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know I just published my first book and it is now available in the wild. The book is Tiny Dragons: The Art of Hatchling Chameleon Care and it is focused directly on the short period of life between incubation to hatching through about 4 months old. This is the period of chameleon life which has the least amount of information available, and, it has been increasingly needed in our community.

There is a challenge with people who find themselves in the position of needing this information. They don’t just need to know the tricks that adjusts adult husbandry to baby husbandry, they often need to know the basics of chameleon husbandry all together.

Anyone who has been working with the community knows the scenario well: Surprise Jackson’s Chameleon babies, purchased an egg, or having their first clutch hatch. As an educator, I can make multiple videos, a whole lot of podcast episodes, or a big section on the website. But, with a book, I can put it all in one convenient package. So, this book is for anyone who is dealing with the hatchling life stage for the first time or anyone who helps people that may come to them for insight into the life stage.

Tiny Dragons covers incubation, hatching, live birth, cage selection, cage set-up, lighting, heat, UVB, misting, fogging, substrate, plants, feeding and talks about the special situations like Surprise chameleon babies, purchasing an egg, and becoming a breeder. It is 192 pages filled with full color photography and actionable information.

To be clear, this covers only incubation through about 4 months. This is not a guide to breeding and, although it is comprehensive as far as husbandry, it is specialized towards the baby stage. That means you’ll see a lot of the same things as you would for adult husbandry, but there will be changes to make it better for babies. For example, I don’t include drippers in the hydration section because a drop of water can hit like a bomb going off for a hatchling. Subtle things like that. So, it may look like standard chameleon husbandry, but it is through a baby filter.

Tiny Dragons is now shipping and you can purchase it here:

It’s about time you wrote this book! 😁
Looking forward to reading it!
I know it will sell well and be full of great informational!
This one kind of snuck up on me. It was supposed to be a 14 page e-booklet to help people who purchased an egg...and then it got bigger because I needed to include incubation and feeding and such...and then the people who saw it said it needed to be in print (oh, twist my arm). Well, if it is going to be in print it has to include husbandry basics! And, here I am, 192 pages later... I am very happy with how it turned out!

Funny how things can run away with us at times! 😉

Funny part, I toyed of the idea of buying Panther chameleon egg before. 😂

Which is kind of funny because if I had started with the intention of writing a book it would have been overwhelming and I probably wouldn't have done it! Putting together a book is A LOT of work! So, being led step by step really worked to my favor on this. Besides, this audience is a very niche audience in our community. Doesn't make sense to write a book for such a small audience...See, I was spared the burden of all these distracting thoughts because I was blissfully unaware of where I would end up. And, so here we are by virtue of a slippery slope!

Many people do. Throughout the book I encourage purchasing a well started juvenile from a reputable breeder for anyone who may be reading the book trying to make a decision, but so many people start their journey into the chameleon community because they already purchased an egg. And this book had those people in mind who now need not only direction into what to do, but exposure to the entirety of chameleon husbandry.
