Hi guys, yesterday i decided to get a new chameleon. I had a veiled for over a year before this. decided it was time to start over again but wanted something a bit less common. well i found a great reptile store and found my new guy. hes a four horned chameleon. ( chameleo quadracornis??) not sure if thats correct or not. anyway he is a fairly mature male, i was looking for something more juvenile but could not pass this guy up. he is extremely friendly and practically runs towards me when i open the cage up. then proceeds to climb strait for the top of my head haha..

Anyway, heres my questions. if anybody can give a better identification of his species that would be great. i know the pictures are not the best, i only have my cell phone right now. all the pet store said was "four horned chameleon". also, i had never seen one of these before, and can only find a few threads about them here on the forum, are they rare? from what i have been able to find online about them it says they need very high humidity, even more so than most other chameleons. i have a hard time getting the humidity in my tank above 75%. so i bought this spray from the pet store, its called tropical mist humidifying spray, made by zilla. its basically water fortified with aloe vera and some other vitamins. its supposed to keep their skin from drying out and help when the humidity is a bit low. it says to mist the chameleon once a day. with it. (i also mist with regular water 4-5 times a day) is this stuff ok to use?

thanks in advance, im sure ill have some more questions as time goes on, i just got him yesterday and am suprised at how quickly he adapted. he was eating cricks the same night i got him. my first chameleon did not eat for 3 days after i got him.

Thanks!, jon

o yea, i have yet to name him so if anyone wants to throw out sugestions that would be nice ;)

I like Yoshi but thats common. You could call him Gandi or Jesus. I really like Gandi. Im getting a Jacksons Chameleon and Im going to name it Michael Jackson. LOL Get it. And then Im going to call him MJ for short. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

haha, i like the name michael jackson for a jackson chameleon. lol i dont know about naming him jesus... hahaha. gandi is kinda cool though

You do indeed have a Trioceros quadricornis quadricornis. I also keep these wonderful chameleons. I would be happy to email you some info if you need it. Just send me a pm with your email.

I keep my quads at about 65 to 80% humidity going up to 95 to 100% at night. It is pretty cool, when I walk in every morning to turn off their humidifier, it looks like a fog or mist from a rain forest. They seem to thrive in that environment. If I can help you, just ask away. Quads are my all time favorite chameleon. They are not for everyone, some males are friendly, most females are pretty shy. If the male is heading out the way you describe he is mostly likely a wild caught (w/c). He is trying to get out of a cage, sorry to say it isn't us the want, it is just out.:( I have a recent w/c who does the same thing.

thanks!, i will pm you my email. and yes, the store said he was wild caught. im not sure if thats a bad thing but i have heard they dont live as long. One cool thing i noticed is he is an expert hunter. my old captive veiled would rarely eat if it was not out of your hand and if he tried he usually missed anything that was more than 3 or 4 inches away hahaha... then he would get all sad and not try anymore. this guy however snatches cricks from a foot away. its amazing to watch.

he is a beautiful quad!! gotta love those mountainous chameleons...so dinosaur like..i forgot how much i like the sailfin look

the sailfin is what got me! i was planning on buying a jackson but i loved that fin on him. I wish these pictures did him more justice, his colors are so much more vibrant in real life.

They are very cool looking but for some odd reason the way they look just freaks me out. I guess it is those horns and how scarey and prehistoric they look.
