Hi everyone im new on here was sent a link to this site off rfuk.Ive got a few questions as i am currently breeding my 2 yemens chameleons. My first question is when i first put them together they were fine got the deal done, but when i went to put them together again 2days later my male seemed fine at first then started headbutting the female i was not sure if this was some sort of mating ritual so i took her out to be on the safe side since i have'nt read bout this happening. Also my female turned an amazing colour she had a dark green background with very bright and distintive blue and yellow dots.So really i would like to no what the head butting meant and also wot the colour ment.My last question is since this is my first time breeding yemens chameleons my female is currently showing blue patches with yellow stripes which i have been told means she is gravid with eggs i have put 2 laying trays in her enclosure so she can lay her eggs when ready the only thing is the last few days she has been off her food but drinking alot is this normal behaviour?Any help would be great since books can not tell you everything and experience is better.

Hi and welcome! I'm in the UK too (and also a member of RFUK)! Your female's dark green colouring when shown to the male means she's gravid. I don't know anything else about breeding chams though, but I'm sure someone else will help with your other questions soon!

Ive never reintroduced them after a successful mating - one session has always resulted in viable fertalized eggs for me. But that's with panther chameleons. Certainly if there are signs of aggression, I would separate as you did.

It is normal for them to go off food and be restless a few days prior to laying eggs.

You said..."my female turned an amazing colour she had a dark green background with very bright and distintive blue and yellow dots"...this means she is either non-receptive or gravid.

You said..."i have put 2 laying trays in her enclosure so she can lay her eggs when ready the only thing is the last few days she has been off her food but drinking alot"...they tend to drink a lot in the last few days before they lay the eggs. What do you mean by "trays"...the container should be at least 8 to 10" deep...and big enough for her to fit into when its empty.
