Hemipenal prolapse.

I'm really scared for my baby... Karma my Senegal has a red thing sticking out of his butt, and I'm almost certain it's a hemipenal prolapse. I just got home and even worse it looks dry! Can someone please have me send you a pic and you post it? Please please please I don't want my baby to be in pain or die.

How long has it been out. Are you sure its not just mature and bringing its junk out for a few. Id spray it w slightly cool water that will help contract somewhat and hopefully it will maybe go back in . If not I probably going to qualified vet is your best option if you can get in soon.

If there's something sticking out its vent...put some KY jelly on it for now so no matter what it is it won't dry out...even damp paper towel, etc will do in a pinch.

I don't know. What kind of lotion? I was always told not to put something on it that had healing properties or that could lead to fungus.

I put his vent in warm water and it fell off! I don't know whether to be more scared or relieved... I don't think sperm plugs are red.

I don't know what healing lotion you are referring too... but most healing lotion, cream or ointment is made for external use and this is an internal part of the body. You should definitely use KY type lubricant. Possibly Mineral Oil... (but not positive about that). After you get lube on it and put cold water on it see if it goes in on its own. If not I would seek veterinary help immediately.

Generally sugar water solution is recommended to shrink prolapses....but it would be good to see a photo. (Can't help you post a photo...don't know how...sorry. I hope someone else can help with that.)

Sorry I was writing when you posted that it fell off.
Any type of dead tissue can possibly fall off. But anything you feel it can possibly be prolapse you should call your vet. I'm so very sorry but that is all I can say at this time.
Hang in there I understand your concern.

Here's two pics, one is fallen off and the other is before I put his vent in warm water.

Karma I'm sorry I don't have enough experience with reptiles.... and I hope someone will answer you soon. I thought a sperm plug was generally a beige color and this appears to be red more like the hemipenis. If no one answers soon please call your vet and explain what you are seeing.

I wish I did... but if your sisters vet cover chameleons that you should at lest be able to call to find out if a sperm plug could be red or not.

Oh girl I feel for you concern.:(

On Google I see some sperm plug pics that're pinkish... hoping it was just a sperm plug, he never acted like he was in pain or anything so really, really hoping just a plug.
