Help with my pregnant chameleon!

Pickle

New Member
I have a Pregnant female VEIlED chameleon named Pickle about 2 1/2 weeks and you can visibly see the eggs inside her. She is in 12 in. Of dirt in a 60 gal tank. We had her in her other huge cage but she didn't go into the dirt as much. So we put her in this new one to see if she would dig her hole. She has a 50 wat light and complete privacy but she still wont dig a hole. I am terrified she will become egg bound. Any suggestions? Also how do you upload a picture onto this?

Welcome to the forums! It would be great if you could post some photos of Pickle. Here's how to post pictures:

Is she still eating? Drinking? Active? Keeping her eyes open all day? If she starts to show any signs of going downhill I would get her to the vet.

I have a few more egg laying and laying bin links for you attached below.

My pregnant pickle

She stopped eating about a day an a half ago. She drinks a ton of water (2 bottles of water aa day) she is almost always awake. She will climb her branch but i dont think she likes her belly on it so she keeps going into the dirt now and just lays down. She will repeat the pattern of climbing the stick and then goes to lay down in the same spot for about two hours. She does not dig.... Just lays there

Are those bumps really eggs? I have a veiled female too and she's never looked like that when carrying eggs. Those "eggs" looks enormous and Veiled eggs are very small.

How old is she? How much do you feed her in a week? What specific supplements do you use and how often for each? What do you feed/gutload the insects with?

Shes almost 1 year we feed crickets, meal worms, super worms, occasional baby dubia roaches. We supplement with calcium w/ d3 and the crickets an other feeders are fed multi collard and garden greens and vegetables.

And whats play sand i keep being told to buy it but all i can find is repti-sand and calcium sand we have her i commpressed shredded coconut fiber right now

I'm worried that she's eggbound. Im not a vet...it's just my best guess. I hope I'm wrong.

Playsand can brought at places like home Depot....not at a pet store. It's sand that is used in sandboxes. The best one is produced by kings and comes in a white bag with red, blue and yellow sand. Ox toys on getting front.

Please read the blogs that I linked you above. She should have d3 calcium no more than twice a month and plain calcium at about every feeding when she has eggs and every other feeding when not gravid.

And she eats about 50-70 insects a week

I feed my adult female veileds about 15 various feeders a week that are equal to the size of large crickets.
