Help with Lighting in my fem veiled cage

Hey I'm new to chams as well but everything I have seen as far as heat bulbs are concerned always lean towards using an incandescent bulb (regular light bulb). If you have already purchased the fixture, maybe you should consider a bulb that has a larger spectrum for plant growth. In the end, you will need to assess your needs based on temperature readings in the basking spot. I went through three bulbs before I found something that worked for my cham. Hopefully someone else might be able to provide some more info.

i broke down and bought the reptisun 2pk 75watt heat bulbs for $10 off amazon but if you can find them, wal-mart sometimes has 75watt halogen floodlights and those are pretty good. i couldn't find any. walmart also sells the fuker's 75watt reptile incandescent for $5 which i bought as a back-up.

just an fyi most of the live plants that are safe to put in do not like direct light and will get burnt by direct contact of rays from the heat bulb. i have a ficus, 2 umbrellas, and a pothos and they are all low-light. my ficus got a little singed but it's huge.. 4ft tall so it was bound to happen.

How warm the incandescent bulb gets will depend a lot on the wattage. I often use ordinary halogen exterior porch lights for basking bulbs. They provide a wider beam of warmth for the cage and are longer lasting and tougher. You can adjust the temp at the cham's basking perch by moving the bulb farther or closer to the cage top.
