I have a female Veiled chameleon and I have a money tree in her cage which she loves but the thing is she has been eating the leaves of the tree. I have read many threads on this forum and many people have different opinions on if the money tree is toxic or not. Can someone please help me decide what to do about this dilemma? My chameleon loves the tree but should i take it out just incase its toxic for her? she has been eating a lot of it.

how would i know if my chameleon has been effected by this plant if it really is toxic?

Just watch her carefully.....if you see any sign of problems in the next few days it would be best to see a vet. There's just no other way to be sure, and even vets often can't be certain without an autopsy anyway. I hope she'll be fine, and maybe if she wants to eat leaves you can give her a few that you know to be healthy.....I bet she'd love some strawberries too :)

Look under "threads" and you will find a stickie that talks about safe plants. There is all kinds of information there.

I would take it out and replace it with a few pothos plants. She will grow to like those and you don't have to worry about her eating it. They are on the safe plant list and others have talked about their veileds eating them with no problem.

While the money tree may not be listed as safe or toxic why risk it???

thank you all for the advice! if she has been eating them for two days do you think it could have already effected her? or do you think she should be fine?

I'm not sure what a money tree looks like, but I have a Schefflera which I like, Pothos is always recommended because it's viney and leafy and ace really - Chams will often take a bite or two and it's fine. As with most plants that a Cham will happily eat........she is probably fine. If you've noticed no problems then just get a new plant and keep your fingers crossed for another day or two, then you can be totally sure it did no harm :)

Thank you for the reply! im gonna purchase a schefflera tomorrow and take the money tree out to be safe! :)

There is nothing online that shows a money tree is toxic, but the information I could find was really limited. Removing it is the safe bet.
