Heating and humidity

So my basking spot is about 85 and bottom is 75 and my humidity is setting around 65-55/50 ish with my mister is this the perfect condition for my veiled chameleon

Basking should be 83-85 for a juvenile (assuming thats what you've got). Humidity should be 30-40 during the day and 80-100 at night, regardless of age. Nighttime humidity can be achieved by using a fogger.

So the tropical day is bad my rooms average humidity is 50 -55? And he will be here tomorrow he’s about 3-4 months old I believe I’ll post pictures tomorrow

Fill this out.. I know you dont have your chameleon yet, but put down what you plan to do. I would like to make sure you have everything correct for your baby when he arrives.

  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?

I wouldnt handle after just a week. Give him at least 2 weeks so adjust, then you can work on handfeeding. Eventually you can use food to lure him out onto your hand. This may take a little while. Never force him. Forcing him will create fear.

Um I wouldnt feed mangos to your chameleon. You will want to feed you chameleon as many crickets as he will eat (usually about 15, maybe even 20 small feeder per day at this age). As he gets older we can work on reducing his food.

Dont feed potatoes for gutload. You will want to use lots of different leafy greens, veggies, maybe a bit of fruit. It's also recommended to use some sort of commercial gutload, such as Cricket Crack or Bug Burger. Lots of variety is key. I will post a gutloading sheet for you to go off off.

Okay so you will need a calcium with d3 powder, calcium without d3 powder, and a multivitamin without d3 powder.

Calcium without d3 every day. Calcium with d3 ONCE every other week (twice per month), and then the multivitamin without d3 ONCE every other week (twice per month). Alternate the weeks of d3 and multivitamin.

*i have a little dripper and misting every six hours rn for 30 secs

I would mist for 2-4 minutes in the morning, 2-4 minutes in the evening. You can also do a very short midday misting aswell. You can use the dripper throughout the day.

Personally I mist before the basking light comes on, but after the uvb comes on. Then in the evening I mist after the basking light goes off, and before the uvb is off. Then for my midday misting the basking light goes off for 15 minutes before, and stays off for 15 minutes after, then is back on.

My schedule is UVB and my grow light on at 7am, mist at 7:30am for 3.5 minutes, basking light on 8am, basking light off at 12pm, mist for 45 seconds at 12:15pm, basking light back on at 12:30, basking light off at 6, misting for 4.5 minutes at 6:30, uvb and grow light off at 7pm. Everything is controlled with timers and an automatic misting system.

Okay so you will be getting the 5.0 reptisun T5HO fixture and bulb. And then you have a basking bulb. Good.

Your highest branch should be at about 10-12 inches away from your lights.

While you wait for your UVB lighting to come in, taking him outside for a while each day is a good idea. Try not to scare him while removing him from his cage to take him outside as he wouldn't have settled yet. I would bring a plant outside for him to sit on too. Keep a VERY close eye on him, they will climb off the plant and take a break for it the moment you look away.

Make sure you use a digital thermometer and hygrometer, not the cheap dials.

Okay I got the light in my cart already and when I get food tomorrow I’ll get the vitamins. Also do you use the repti safe stuff to put in the water ? And my light needs to be 10-12 inches away ? It’s 7 rn I believe

Yep.

No I dont use reptisafe. You are meant use distilled or Reverse osmosis water. You can buy gallons of distilled water at the grocery store. I believe you can also buy RO water, though most just get an RO water filter system. I just use a tap water filter, but I really need to switch over to distilled or RO water. Mainly because the extra minerals with eventually wreck my misting system. Plus tap water can be pretty nasty in places, and chameleons drink water with very little dissolved solids. Very different from the amount tap water usually has.
