He LOVES snails!

Ha, thats just a tiny part of it, you can see the rest of my set up in this thread

https://www.chameleonforums.com/cham-room-setups-reptile-rooms-feeder-room-picture-thread-121536/

My boyfriend didnt know what what happening before I all of the sudden was breeding dubias, red runners, isopods, silk worms, horn worms, snails, and more to come im sure LOL.

Edit: Just hide it all in the closet and then one day he will say hay what is all this? haha

That's actually where my roaches and crickets are right now! Its a huge closet.. and it has mostly clothes and junk I don't use.. I'd love to clear it out and make it a chameleon spot.. probably not the same idea my boyfriend has in mind :D:D

You breed all those types? How easy are silk worms to breed? Your giving me ideas.. :) Though you must have more than one chameleon.. I just have one right now.. I would love to get a panther.. but I'd really be killed.

I have 3 chams, 1 bearded dragon and 2 whites tree frogs. Silk worms are very tricky to breed, its best to just buy eggs or the worms themselves. You can try your hand at breeding, it is just frustrating at times. Hornworms are much easier to breed, but take up more space and make more mess. Isopods are simple and clean and easy, you might want to think about those, check out double Ds for isopods.

Do you feed the isopods to your chameleon or do they clean the cage? If they are for cleaning cages.. could I just find them from outside? I always see the gray ones crawling on my floor. :p

They are for feeding. I get the tan sow bugs and all of my animals love them. I have those breeding like crazy right now. Next I am looking to get giant canyon isopods, because those are much bigger.

Alright, so I just now ordered the 2 snail pack. I asked when they'd be shipped and I got an email like 5-10 minutes later! I should have them by next week.

One more question for you! Thanks for being so helpful~! When you say 20% of your chameleons diet.. How many would you feed them a week? per day?

Well he loves, them and i have a really hard time saying no, so he gets usually 4-5 snails a week. But he is good and still eats his roaches and other food so its ok.

edit: he is an adult jackson though, so depends on how much your guy eats. My boy only eats about 2-3 bugs a day or sometimes 4 times a week, just depends on how he feels. I offer food daily and he eats when he wants to.

Well.. I made a thread asking about how much I should feed mine, and haven't gotten an answer yet :(. Mine is a female veiled chameleon.. I give her about 10-15 crickets and a few baby dubia roaches and she eats them very quickly (in a cup). Could probably eat a lot more. She is over 7 months old & pretty small. I think I might be over feeding her.. but if shes eating them so fast.. I'd hate to not give her what she wants.

I hope she will eat the snails! It seems like she'll eat just about anything that moves.. I watched her get that lI'm going to eat you look when a little droplet kept making its way down the dripper tube. (I'm thinking she thought it was a bug, or maybe she is just thirsty. I've only caught her drinking about 3-4 times and I've had her maybe over a month now? She eats a lot of leaves though

feed her as much as she can eat within about 5 minutes, a couple times a day. Offer a wide range of well gutloaded prey; aim to have no one feeder prey type make up more than 20% of the diet, and certainly no more than 40%

Got my snails from Snails in the Mail today! They look nice and... snaily... Tonight, I will get them all set up in a bin and let them get to breeding. Thanks for the tip!

Yay! I hope your guy loves them as much as mine! He'll even take them off my son's hand, and he wouldn't even take a super worm from him! They're a big hit with my jackson. He sees the baby container, and watches me like a hawk, lol.

GOt my snails today too! What do I feed them? Do I need to spray them with water? (Read somewhere)

... I put them in a full bed of peat moss and I'm reading the snail guide and it says ..
small amount of peat (because it is acidic) <-- So does this mean I'm going to kill them already lol

I am going to use the organic potting soil mixed with a little ecoearth that I have one hand as substrate. It's worked great for the isopods. For care, I am going to follow Sandrachameleon's advice here:

https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/133-snails.html

Not one minute after introduction to their new "home", they are already at work, pooping up the place :D

Glad you got yours, too. :)

Do you have some potting soil, organic would be good, to mix in with the peat? Not sure how much peat would be a problem. I feed my snails, papaya, apples, leafy greens, carrots and cucumbers. They really like the cucumbers so far. I also mist them about every day, unless the cage is looking pretty wet. You want it moist but not soupy.

Here's a link to Sandra's blog on snails. It has a bunch of good info on it. https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs...33-snails.html

Thank you!

Do you think Earthgro potting soil would be good to mix with the peat moss? Or maybe I could just do all earthgro potting soil?

And where can I buy cuttlefish bone?

I'd probably use all potting soil, because it has some peat in it already. But you might be able to just mix it in, and see how it goes. I'm pretty new at this, too. I don't want to tell you the wrong thing, and have you lose your snails. I'd feel terrible. :( Maybe someone knows for sure, and will let us know.
Just about any place that sells pet bird food will have cuttle bones. They'll be in the same aisle as the parakeet/parrot supplies. :)

Thanks for all your help :)

Melissa,

I too bought snails from the same seller! They have since bred and I have about 36 baby snails from one snail so far. I've been offering them lettuce and carrots and calcium bones meant for birds to peck at. They seem to like it. Have you tried anything else?

Good luck with your snails! I'll be offering a few of mine up before too long :)

Hello, maybe there is Somebody Tell me where I can Buy some snails ??

Lathis, love the pic! "Om, nom, nom!" :D

Marky, I bought mine from www.snailsinthemail.us They're a little pricey, but they breed a lot. I think they were worth it. It takes a little time to have some big enough to feed off, because you have to wait for your snails to lay eggs, eggs to hatch, and babies to get big enough to feed off.
