Gravid behaviour

I think Amy is working on her first infertile clutch - the last few days she hasn't wanted food (which is NOT like her, lol!) and she has been thirstier than usual too. Today I showed her to Tommy, hoping to see her gravid colouration. Tommy instantly started showing off to her and she just walked away and showed no reaction whatsoever. There was no colour change in her at all! Will she only show gravid colouration if she's carrying fertile eggs? I'm a bit confused!

the food bit can be an idication but my female has days she isnt remotly intersted in any food not enev her favourites locusts. My female always reacts to the male but wont through glass so there has to be nothing between my two to see a reacion. Have you got a layig place in her cage already tiff?

Cheers, Harry! Yes Bradley - the laying bin has been in with her since she was around 6 months old. She never shows any interest in it though! I have recently re-moistened it in readiness!

Peanut wouldnt even look at her laying bin until the day before she started digging really.

She never went off her food throughout the whole thing, even eatting on the day of laying, but she did seem to drink a lot more.

Good luck Tiff and Amy, im sure everything will go smoothly for you :)

The dark background color can indicate non-receptive OR gravid.
Her behavior/actions towards your male is showing that she is receptive....that would say that she isn't ready to lay eggs. I have seen a female mate with a male and lay infertile eggs a couple of weeks later followed sooner than the normal length of time after that with a clutch of fertile eggs. Just make sure you keep her egglaying container in the cage and hopefully she will know what to do.

Also...IMHO showing her to the male might stimulate egg production.

Wish I could give you a clearer answer.

Thanks for the help Kinyonga. She just has me confused, bless her! I'm sure she knows what's going on - I just wish she could speak, lol! She is looking rather plump and doesn't show the same interest in food that she usually does. Her laying box is always in with her - I mist it frequently too. I guess we'll just have to sit this one out and see what happens!

My daughter always tell me not to let Camille see Luie that just the sight of him could make her lay eggs even tho I'm doing everything else right. No warmer than 80 and 5 feeders 3 times a week.
