gaping while basking

i know they do this to regulate their temps mostly to cool down but my guy is doin it at around 75. the light is about 3 inches off the cage. i rarely use his light cause usually i take him outside but when the weather isnt so great i leave him in. i know its not to warm for him. i just find it weird cause i see him trying to get closer to the light but he keeps doin it. he is a male graceful. he never does this only under his light. even when hes outside and its alot warmer than that. and no its not an RI. no other problems at all. still active and healthy. just wondering for myself.

mabey he does it beacuse he sees you? try putting up a videa camra and see if he stops when your gone.

he actually stops when i get near him! i always have to catch him gaping from a distnce. hes never gaped at me in defense or cause hes angry hes very very calm and friendly
