I was thinking about hanging a wrought iron plant hanger on the frame of Waldo's cage to hang a pothos or something similar. It will hang away from the cage in front of the sliding glass door.

If all the lamps are face down is there any concern that he may climb near the lights? He won't be able to get to the bottom of them where the lightbulb is but he may be able to touch the silver dome part. I see lots of folks with their chams climbing on top of their cages but I still wanted to ask.

Also he will not be unattended during this time if I decide to do it.

Hey Crocks,
I have a pothos above my chameleons enclosure and he always finds a way to climb onto the top of his light fixture. I think he likes the warmth on his claws. It doesn't get hot to the touch, just slightly warm. So my opinion is that it should be fine if he can't get at the light and the fixture doesn't get hot to the touch, but just warm.

Thanks!! Hopefully he will use the pothos but you know how kids can be, they never follow the rules :)

You need to be careful. If he touches the metal housing of the basking light dome he or she could burn themself:(

That is what worries me. I can out it separate from the cage but it was just easier to kind if secure it to the cage itself. The dome is warm but not sure it is hot. Will have to feel it tomorrow. Of course I don't know what is too hot for him either. I figure warm to the touch should be ok.....

Also the pothos or hanger itself will be slightly higher than the cage so hopefully he will be drawn to that.

You know the deal we have gone through with a burn, but that was of the tongue, Picasso will not climb on top of his light dome, but if he does, it is black and doesn't get very hot....that may be the best color dome to have.

Yes that is the reasons I posted. After that I am scared to death of the thought of that happening during free range. Better safe than sorry I say, I am going to test out my domes today and see how they feel. Hope Picasso is still doing well!!!!

What I did was put a planter hook in the ceiling in front of a window and hung a pothos in it then Ran some sticks and vines through it. He can't go up far and he can't get down, he just sits there and looks out the window. I do have a clamp on lamp far enough away that he gets some heat but he can't touch it. He seems to enjoy it! :)

Here's a pic...

Great pic! Is the plant hanging near his cage so he can come out on his own when you open the door or do you have to get him out to put him there. My thing right now is trying to get him out so thought if something was hung near or attached to his cage he might want to venture out on his own when I open the door. He wants my hands no where near him in the cage as far as trying to get him out. I can mess with things in his cage as long as I am not attempting to get him out we are good :).

Of course I would not open the cage until I was in there and could monitor him all the time

the plant is hanging close enough to his cage that i could just open the door and place a stick from it to the pothos for him to go on his own but hes always sooo eager to come out i just open the door and onto my hand he goes, then right to the plant.
i'm afraid of him wanting to climb up on top of his cage to let him do it on his own, the thought of him and the hot lights on top dont sit to well.

you could try placing the plant close enough or making a pathway to and from his cage and see if he'll come out on his own... :)

Yeh I think I will try that. I am thinking if I can get him out a little he may start to warm up to me. Going to put a hook in the ceiling tomorrow :)

Thanks!!
