Free Range Outdoor danger...?

For you outside free rangers.... Dont you ever get paranoid about just letting them hang out?? I saw a video once where a kid and his dad were playin' with thier pet rat on a picnic table & a hawk come out of nowhere and just took it away in 1 fast swoop! they both just sat there... like shocked!! No more pet rat Maybe its on You Tube?

I dont know of anyone who lets their chameleon just "FR" outside.
Well, actually there are plenty of threads where the chameleon has been left alone, and the chameleon "disappeared"

Its getting near the warmer months, so anyone thinking about letting there chameleon have some outside time, MONITOR YOUR CHAMELEON.

It should be caged ideally, if not, please stay right with your chameleon, and be mindful that a hawk could swoop down, and snag it out of you hand even!

There will be threads of outside accidents soon.

I take Phineas out for a walk whenever the weather is nice. I am ALWAYS paranoid! I have had hawks circle around my parrot. Luckily, he can spot a hawk way before me and gives everyone a "bad bird" alert. But as for the cham, I hover over him constantly and only take my eyes off him too look up in the sky. When I want to relax, I put him in his outside cage - which he hates, of course!

Just say no to free ranging outside. Its bad for you and your chameleon.

I posted a thread here quite awhile ago about a hawk that almost snatched up my chameleon. I literally saw from the corner of my eyes his tallons going in for the kill and I swatted him out of the air. True Story!!!! I was sitting right there while my cham was basking on a tall branch that extended out from a potted plant. The hawk came from behind. Thank god my cham alerted me by getting very skinny and leaning toward the side of the branch for protection. Just as I was about to say WTF... the hawk was right there next to my head! if you are gonna let them be uncaged make sure you sit your butt down there. Bring your phone, a drink, whatever you need so you don't have to go in the house not even for a second. I am serious. Not to mention they can disappear faster than the blink of an eye.

Wow!! You were lucky and quick I had my previous cham Burt in his ficus out on the patio 1 time.....I went in to pee.... came out.. No burt! Luckily I found him just before he was going into a huge bush...he was still on the gravel. I woulda never found him in there

I'd be scared to let mine outside to FR. He's always trying to climb as high as possible, and I know that he'd be about 40 feet up in a tree before I could even blink.

I remember reading this thread. How mortifying! I don't know anyone who free ranges outside. I have a 4x4x8 ft screen cage for my outside time. I wouldn't even think of risking anything with these guys!

I free range my parson in the summer.
I don't worry about birds of prey because a pair of red sholdered hawks nest in the backyard. They don't hunt in their nesting territory and don't allow any other birds of prey to enter their territory.

Unbelievably it was 70 here today so I had my Jackson out and he tried making a run for it a few times, luckily I was right there to police him!
