First time to the vet today for my Parsons

Hey everyone,

Well I took my Parsons to the vet today for the first time. I've had it about 2 weeks now and I wanted to get a checkup and fecal test done on it. I'm happy to say it passed with flying colors. No parasites in the fecal test and the vet, Dr. Greek, said he was super healthy. It weighed 39 grams. He did say that even though it was a good sign that there were no parasites in this fecal test, it doesn't mean it's free and clear. Parasites don't drop eggs in every bow movement. He said zoos actually like to do 2-3 test over a span of a few weeks while the new animal is in quarantine to be certain it's parasite free.

In any event, I had some Panacur prescribed and will give it about 3-5 treatments just to be on the safe side. Dr. Greek said there aren't any side effects to the drug and it wouldn't hurt.

Here's a pic of my Parsons at the vet and Dr. Greek in the background doing the fecal test:

I also took my adult male Nosy Be, Slurpee, in also for a checkup. I bought him as an adult have owned him for about a month. He passed with flying colors too. :)

Glad your parsons is doing well. I sure miss the days when I was close and could head to Dr Greek on a minutes notice.:(

Sounds as though you have found a good vet. When he is older some guidance I recommend at least two visits to the vet a year. One before hibernation and one when they emerge from their hibernation state. As well as other visits if they seem warranted. Congratulations again about your new Parsonii!

Good news Wayne. Isn't Dr Greeks office nice? I really like it and he is a good reptile vet. Your guy has a lot of growing to do. You'll be amazed by how much they grow.

So nice to see a responsibale pet owner taking their chams in for check ups. I'm glad that everything went well with both of your guys. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Greek and seeing that gorgeous office a few years ago when I was visiting the West Coast.

Thanks everyone!

Yes, I was very impressed with Dr.Greek's practice. Is the nicest vet I've been too. Unfortunately, he's about an hour away from me without traffic and that's the never the case in LA. It actually took me over an hour and a half getting to my appointment because it was a rainy day and LA drivers especially can't drive in the rain!

That's great Wayne. I knew he'd have no problems. He looks great.

Thanks Roy! So it looks like my little fella is a fella! I've already have a name in mind for him. I think I'm going to call him Karl, as in Karl Childers, as in Slingblade! Or maybe I'll just call him Slingblade. He kind of reminds me of him. He moves slowly like Slingblade and has a slight underbite like him.

Thanks for the advice. Do you have a link where I can read up about their hibernation cycle?

Thanks Craig! I can't wait and am excited to see him grow. Now I have to find a lady fo him so he won't be so lonely.
