Hey everyone. I been lurking the forums for a while now and I finally decided to post. I have been interested in chams for a while now, but never decided to get one till now. My cousin told me about his friend's dad who raises them. So I decided to give smcnary up a call and what I saw amazed me.
Steve had so many cham/cages I was overwhelmed. He showed me his whole set up from his gutloaded insects that he raises to all the plumbing for his system. He told me how he has been doing this for over 40 years and said he would help me out with whatever I needed. Before we talked about getting a cham from him (one of Rambo's babies), he made sure I was able to take care of it properly; that's when I knew this was a guy who cares about the animal and not just in it to make a quick buck.
Once I got everything that Steve told me to get, we went to work at his shop. While we were building the cage, he was explaining to me how every piece that we were putting in there was important to the cham from temperature gradients to placement of plants so the cham could drink water. Steve had all supplies I needed to put my cage together. He ended up saving me a good chunk of change because he had several spare parts from all his cages.
After we got everything finished we started feeding his chams some dubai roaches. It was probably one of the coolest things I have ever seen. It is one thing watching a cham eat in a video and it's really something else when you get to see it live. I am sure most of you aren't as amazed as I was, but I am sure everyone here can relate to what I am feeling. I will try to keep everyone posted with my build. If anyone is curious about my set up I am more than happy to elaborate. Without further ado PICS!!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum. You have half of the battle won. Steve is a pro at this stuff. You would not believe how many times we have discussed me raising crickets or silkworms, or just chatting. I think Steve is a sweetheart. He is also a good friend.

You've certainly come to the right place and from what I've seen on here with steves posts is, he knows his stuff.
Kath.

Welcome to the forum! You don't really need us for anything if you have Steve's ear lol But we would love to see photos of your baby when you finally get him!

My cousin's friend's dad... OMG you are so lucky to have such a resource right there in your "back yard". Your enclosure looks great. I've had this addiction all my life since I first played w/ a toad and watched it eat pill bugs. I'm now 46 years old and I still will sit there and watch my cham eat each and every day. Don't tell my office, but I'm late quite often because of feedings. Can't wait to see your new addition. Welcome to the Forums.

Wow!!! First let me say Thank You to everyone for the kind comments.
Andrew is a bright young man,he has the passion and a true desire to learn about chameleons. It has been a pleasure mentoring him thus far. Andrew has made the personnel and financial commitment to doing this and I feel it will show in his future interactions here as well as with his Cham. He forgot to mention a few things about his set up. The uv and spot lights are on separate timers so uv comes on first and goes off last. He has a Mistking system as well as a drip system we put together also on separate timers. You all know I have plenty of bugs so he can feed his guy plenty of variety. I feel he will be a complete success and look forward to his being a part of this fantastic forum/family.
Welcome Andrew
Steve

Steve it is wonderful that you help people like Andre, and even me. But if you get him as hooked as you have some of us of us - well his whole family and checkbook will hate you.:rolleyes:
