Hey everyone. I been lurking the forums for a while now and I finally decided to post. I have been interested in chams for a while now, but never decided to get one till now. My cousin told me about his friend's dad who raises them. So I decided to give smcnary up a call and what I saw amazed me.
Steve had so many cham/cages I was overwhelmed. He showed me his whole set up from his gutloaded insects that he raises to all the plumbing for his system. He told me how he has been doing this for over 40 years and said he would help me out with whatever I needed. Before we talked about getting a cham from him (one of Rambo's babies), he made sure I was able to take care of it properly; that's when I knew this was a guy who cares about the animal and not just in it to make a quick buck.
Once I got everything that Steve told me to get, we went to work at his shop. While we were building the cage, he was explaining to me how every piece that we were putting in there was important to the cham from temperature gradients to placement of plants so the cham could drink water. Steve had all supplies I needed to put my cage together. He ended up saving me a good chunk of change because he had several spare parts from all his cages.
After we got everything finished we started feeding his chams some dubai roaches. It was probably one of the coolest things I have ever seen. It is one thing watching a cham eat in a video and it's really something else when you get to see it live. I am sure most of you aren't as amazed as I was, but I am sure everyone here can relate to what I am feeling. I will try to keep everyone posted with my build. If anyone is curious about my set up I am more than happy to elaborate. Without further ado PICS!!!!
