so i saved a nosy faly from a craigslist owner for a good price but it has an eye problem there was a lil like eye gunk in his eye yesterday and i had it looked at and i was told to keep the humidity up well today the eye is completley shut is this permanit or will it go back to normal and will it cause any stress to the animal should i keep it away from breeding any sugestions?

Get him to a vet and give it time to heal. What type of basking bulb are you using and what did the previous owner use? Such issues are generally caused when typical house bulbs are utilized as basking bulbs.

the faly may have a infection. the vet didnt assess it for any infections?

did he think it was left over shed?

does this vet see chameleons?

if it is sealed shut, i would get him a shower chamber with warm water. let loosen and remove the gunk from the outer eye lid. try a moist qtip by rolling it. once the eye is open drop some saline solution in the eye. if it is a infection you will need to see a vet for proper meds to fight the infection at hand.

if this is from a deficiency we need more information. fill out a how to ask form.

already had a vet look and she said its just left over shed stuck in his eye the lights and everything are good he is the only one with problems i saved him so i got him like this im just wondering cuz the vet said its not an infection but it might not open back up i wana know if anyone else has delt with this and still bred the chameleon or idk

I would make sure your chamelon is 100% healthy and has no issues of any sort before I would consider breeding him. JMO.....

Typically eye issues, in my experience, is from a lack of something in the diet and/or hydration issues. I have also had a vet look at a chams eye and was told it was not a problem and would clear up on its own only to see the problem resurface over and over. If it were me, I would make sure he is very well hydrated by means of injecting his feeders with water and feeding some hornworms until you are certain his urate is white with no signs of dehydration. Properly gutloading your feeders and keeping a good supplement schedule will hopefully get any imbalance corrected. Ontop of all that, I would get a small tube of terramycin and try putting a small dab with a qtip on the affected eye every other day for a week or so and see if that helps clear it up. If all else fails and the vet has no good treatment options, I have treated with vitamin A capsules and got past eye issues before. Jim Flaherty from the chameleon company has a thread on here that describes in good detail when the vitamin A dosing is warranted and how to adminster that treatment. You might want to look up that thread and see if that fits your current issue but that is a last resort after following good husbandry practices first to see if it corrects itself. JMO
